A few days before Christmas, I was shopping at a major grocery store. The couple two people ahead of me in line were trying to pay with a store gift card (they had milk, cereal, eggs, bread, and some other things I did not see). They were told that the system was down so they would have to pay another way. It was quite obvious that the gift card was the only way they had to pay. I stepped ahead of the person in front of me and handed the cashier two twenties and said, "I'll pay it." The woman in line by me fished out a twenty and said, "I'll pay half." The couple was shocked. The cashier was speechless. And you know what? It felt really good.

I give a lot to charities, but this random act of kindness felt better than any of it.
