To the People of Iran: as an American I can honestly tell you that I myself, nor anyone I personally know, have any ill-will toward you (except for the psychopaths that chant slogans like "Death to America", "Death to Britain", "Death to Israel", or the like). We're all human beings, we all share this one planet, and none of us is going anywhere, so we might as well all learn to get along and enjoy the ride together. Please support the brave members of your Green movement and their leaders, so that you can achieve a government that is more deserving of you and your long, esteemed heritage. And please take any actions necessary to pressure your government to listen to the pleas of the rest of the world to suspend your nuclear program until the IAEA can certify that the program is strictly for peaceful purposes, so that the other countries of the world have no reason to continue to sanction you, eventually attack you, and cause you more unnecessary misery. When a new, more reasonable government takes over in Iran, I'm sure the United States, and the rest of the world, can work with Iran to settle the issues we disagree on, so that our world can be a little more peaceful. And for the issues we all can't settle, maybe we can agree to disagree, and be just a little friendlier.

Would it surprise you to know that the majority of those who chant what most accurately translates as 'Down with America' bear no ill will towards Americans as individuals, but are vehemently opposed to the government of the US which backs brutal, oppressive dictatorships, attempts to crush those who dare to think they can revolt against such and start using their natural resources for the benefits of themselves, backs terrorist groups in its efforts to crush such states and movements, and uses vetoes to protect a regime that keeps killing its own (refugees from a state are indeed people of that state, even if the government of that state denies it). Perhaps you could start taking actions to pressure your government to listen to the pleas of the rest of the world to stop doing such things. (PS, about 2/3rds of the nations of the world take the position that the US needs to show evidence that the Iranian program is military in nature. It is rather difficult to prove oneself innocent of a charge when the 'judge' is facing enormous pressures from a powerful group who refuse to let the preponderence of the evidence sway them from their claim that the accused is guilty)

To the Government of Iran: Please, please, please ignore the legitimate demands of the rest of the world and continue on your present obstinate course regarding your nuclear program. That way the world will have a good excuse to attack you, overthrow your disgusting regime, and free the Iranian people and the rest of the world from your fanaticism and tyranny.

The USA has the world's supply of nukes, as does Israel who will not reveal how many. The USA is the only nation that has used nuclear weapons, murdering millions of civilians in Japan at the end of WWII as a test to see how well it worked. Tell me again how Iran acquiring a nuclear weapon is such a threat. The Iranian regime is the direct result of our attempt to colonize Iran and provide the Iranian people with a vicious dictator who murdered them routinely as part of his police state, totally endorsed and funded by the USA. So if you knew anything about anything, like history, you might realize that the fiction you are spouting is just that, propaganda designed to get ignorant people to be all for the most destructive war the world has yet seen. Gung ho! Kill the infidel! Morons.

Study history. The Arabs and Muslims and Persians have been the murderers, the maurauders, the Slavers, the barbarians, the heroin traffickers. They attacked the fledgling United States from our inception. Our Admiral John Paul Jones had to confront Muslim insurgency in the 1800s. They sided with Hitler during WW2. Modernly they tried to strangle us with their oil, support those who hijack airplanes, kill civilians enmasse and, make threats to destroy Israel and the US. The US dropped the two bombs during WW2 to preclude the need to invade the Japanese homeland. The Japanese military were barbaric and needed to be stopped. Don't worry. We will not have a ground war with Iran. All future wars will be fought with nuclear weapons. Lindy~ grow up. We are not going to sit in a circle, hold hands and, sing Kumbaya. If you don't like what the US does but approve of these dudes barbarianism, why not go fight for them.

Perhaps, knowing that such aircraft carrier groups are vulnerable to the sort of missile fire that Iran is capable of mounting, especially if they are in waters where their maneuverability is severely restricted and retreat out of range is effectively impossible lends him some courage.

Just because Europe or the US doesn't buy Iranian oil means squat.
China, Russia, and probably India will buy all the oil that Iran produces.

No, Russia will not start buying Iranian oil. Remember that economics always plays a key roll and as a major oil exporter herself, Russia has no need for Iranian oil.
China of course will continue to buy. They can make up some of the loses but not all.
India will continue to buy too if the price is right. That is all about economics since Iran is not at the top of their list of countries to play nicey-nice with.
So no, the boycott will not bring Iran to their knees. It will however really hurt which is why Iran has been howling about it and even making threats over it.

Russia will serve as a conduit for Iranian oil to get to eastern and
western Europe. It is all about the Benjamins which is why Russia
will do whatever to acquire dollars and other strong foreign currencies.
If Russia can make money by selling Iranian oil as its own then
Russia will have more oil down the road to sell Europe at a higher
price. You're right, it's economics.

Any member nation of the UN which threatens another member nation with "Extinction" as Iran has threatened Israel and the United States and other nations;
Should be dropped into a "Probationary Status" in the UN
Probationary Status would mean they lose the vote in the general Assembly and lose membership in all UN committees and Groups; and also lose their opportunities to sit in any position of authority in the UN.
01:40 PM on 07/19/2012
Iran should withdraw from the useless outdated UN. It serves absolutely no purpose to Iran as well as the 193 members.

Actually they never have threatened any other country with extinction. And I am NOT a supporter of Iran, a terrorist nation which even terrorizes their own people. But that famous comment about Israel was a (probably intentional) mistranslation of what he said when he said that one day Israel will be in the dustbin of history (no longer exist some day). There was no direct threat there. He did not say Iran was going to destroy Israel. And he certainly has never threatened the United States with extinction. That would be a ludicous statement even by his standards. Nor has he threatened any other country so. Not even Saudi Arabia and they so do not like Saudi Arabia (and vice versa)

What has Iran got to lose by showing us their nuclear technology? Certainly, theirs is not as advanced as ours. Iran has not shown us they are an honest country.

That the IAEA inspectors are in Iran, given unfettered access to every site where enriched nuclear material is made, stored, or used, and keep certifying that all enriched material is being used for exclusively civilian purposes just bounces right out of your head the same way that Obama's birth certificate bounces out of the heads of Birthers, doesn't it.

They do NOT have unfettered access. They have been barred from several sites. Remember this is not just about Enriched uranium,it is about building a nuclear weapon. That means access to anyplace suspected of making Nuclear weapon components.

Ironicly, in polling data from Middle East countries, the country where the people (not government) have the most favorable view of the US is Iran. It is unfortunate that these same people are saddled with such a terrible government. It is important to keep this in mind and to temper our jingoism and saber rattling. Teddy Roosevelt got it right with Speak softly and carry a big stick.

And that is why I favored increased economic contact during the Bush (ironically both Sr and Jr) years. My theory is that blue jeans, coca cola and rock and roll (not to mention Gucci, budweiser, and Lady Gaga) would have encouraged the people to place greater demands on the government that could not be met with their current religious/political structure.

Democracy and capitalism is incredibly insidious and subversive. We need to simply let them work. It is our own impatience and lack of self discipline that gets in the way.

Note, the favourable views are of Americans as individuals, not the American government that is responsible for decades of violence and oppression of Iranians, followed by decades of efforts to punish them for successfully revolting against such oppression. "All Iranian groups make very sharp distinctions between how they view the American people and the U.S. government. Each group has a predominantly favorable opinion of the American people (52% favorable vs. 38% unfavorable, three group average), but a predominantly negative view of the U.S. government (17% favorable vs. 78% unfavorable on average). On the whole, Iranians show slightly more confidence in President Obama than they had in President Bush (16% vs. 7% a lot or some confidence). Nevertheless, in contrast to most other foreign publics recently surveyed, a majority of Iranians (72%) express little or no confidence in U.S. President Obama." http://www.worldpublicopinion.org/pipa/pdf/feb10/IranianPublic_Feb10_rpt.pdf Note, this poll was conducted before Obama made it clear that he was going to be worse than Bush in his policies towards Iran.

I was comparing the Iranian views to other Middle East views of America (both of us as people and of our government).  So yes we are favorably viewed as a people, but also our government is MORE favorably viewed (though not at majority levels) than other mideastern countries.  Sorry if I was unclear.  Also, very impressed by your detailed knowledge of this as most Americans are completely unaware of how we stack up in various countries and think we are universely loved, or at least foreigners ar stupid.  The world  is, as you have demonstrated, much more nuanced.

the economy shows improvement in America's relative economic situation in recent months and this has had a large impact on oil prices.

Seven consecutive days of growth in oil prices since February 2012 so far has been unprecedented. According to the report, oil prices today, with a percentage increase has reached its highest level in seven weeks.

America Energy Department said gasoline stocks of 1.8 million barrels last week, this country has fallen. The Commerce Department also announced the construction of America's housing market has increased during June and reached its highest level in four years.

The report added that the market price per barrel in New York, America style, for delivery in August rose 95 cents more than the $ 90.82 is reached. As oil prices yesterday rose 65 cents to $ 89.87 was over. The oil price has fallen 8.3 percent since the beginning of this year. London's Brent North Sea in the barrel for delivery in September, with a percentage increase over the $ 106.17 is reached.

Between oil prices and Brent oil reached $ 15.22 is more than America. America's energy ministry said the country's oil demand in the past four weeks averaged 19 million barrels a day. Accordingly, the amount of crude oil reserves in America during the past week has been faced with the loss of 809 thousand barrels.
ITS HURTING THE US Middle class working families now: the day Prez ObAma announced sanctions gasoline soared .43 gal.

reason the US is on irans back is not because of WMD's (Hint: We used this in IRAQ). Dubya! Doh! its because Irans support for Palestine and its quest to keep defending its land from being invaded and stolen by Israel. And because not only Uncle Sam has invested greatly in Israel as a strategic outpost in the middle east since the fallout from WW2, it has great Pro-Israel Lobby & political seat influence.
