Paula Deen and Rachael Ray are not chefs. Neither is Guy Fieri. They are cooks, and that is just fine. Nobu has not much formal training, same with Ducasse. Batali was at Le Cordon Bleu for a time. Flay and English have formal training. Puck also had a series of apprenticeships. Ramsay has had some apprenticeships as well. What any of these people earn is only dependent upon how fiercely they market themselves. Ramsays method is to just crush people, as he was crushed as a young boy. Can't teach, can't lead by example, so people like watching him destroy others , glad they are not the target of his wrath. I think the mark of a good chef is the ability to share what they have learned, and to show a few tricks fo the trade. Histrionics only goes so far. Just like 'real housewives' and 'reality shows'- all sham and no substance.

i really don't see how paula deen and rachel ray were even in the top ten. they are not chefs, they are COOKS. their meals look good but they run their mouth way too much. don't watch either one aymore.

One of the reasons I don't watch any TV any more is that I found it very irritating to see what was being foisted upon the viewing public (granted, much was demanded by said public) as being exemplary. I've never cared for Deen or Ray; although Rachael's food is edible.

Guy is, I believe, a culinary school grad. That does not preclude him from being a jerk much of the time. Will somebody tell him the clown car left 15 minutes ago???

Guy's degree is in hotel management. He is a cook, as is Deen and Ray and for the most part Nobu and Ducasse. It's a wonder to me what the public deems to be the credits necessary to be called a 'chef'. As an example, Alton Brown is formally trained , and a great teacher.

Some names I don't even recognize and I watch the cooking shows all the time. I love Ina Garton of Barefoot Contessa and she isn't even mentioned. She is down to earth, real people. She is not necisarily a CHEF per se but she has experience of many years. I don't know if she attended a cooking school BUT She makes comfort foods that people can relate to in their lives. I tire of Paula and her cackle but but I do watch her sometimes. I enjoy Guy's show of Diners, drive ins and Dives. I learn a lot from his visits to different little hole in the wall restaurants. I can;'t stand ANthony Bordain, he is so full of himself and is obviously an alcoholic always has a glass of booze in his hand and very judgemental of cooks that haven;t attended a fancy cooking school. Those peopled learned on the job and you nevedr see him cooking anything.

It wasn't a "most popular" list, it was an earnings list. Ina Garten didn't make enough to get in the top 10. I can't stand Paula, and I absolutely ABHOR Guy.

And I disagree with your assessment of Mr. Bourdain. If your food is good, he could care less how, or where you learned to cook. And I HAVE seen him cooking. Many times in fact. Always to delight I might add.

I want to see a cooking contest between Gordon R. and Bobby Flay; cos I'd love to see Gordon chew him up and spit him out.

I've never eaten at a Ramsey restaurant but have been to a couple of Flays and the food is AMAZING!!! Probably the best of any place I've ever been, especially Mesa Grill in Vegas. I hope to go to the GR Steakhouse on my next visit but it would be hard pressed to be any better than Mesa.

I am stunned that Andrew Zimmern would say what he said about the chef's on the list...I really liked the guy...now he just seems petty to me...sad.

He was just stating that instead of listing the best chefs, this was a list about who makes the most money. I still like Andrew and understand his comment.

Gordon berates his own countrymen as well. He doesn't care where you're from. Bad service, bad food, and a disgusting kitchen will draw ire from him, regardless of the continent it's happening on.

You couldn't pay me to vote for a Republican. But I love Gordon. He's a master and has earned every penny he enjoys. He's also helped many, many restaurant owners put their businesses back on track. For that, he's #1 to me.

I like Mr Ramsey, but his track record of turning businesses around isn't so good. I don't think it's his fault, I think most of them just fall back into old habits if he's not there to stay on them.

Here's a link that shows the fate of the restaurants since he's done a makeover: http://www.quora.com/What-restaurants-on-Kitchen-Nightmares-have-closed

How many of these so called chefs actually make their money cooking? That is what a chef does. Not a talk show host, not selling cookware, etc.

The British Invasion continues. Are there any other famous chefs, actors, actresses or TV announcers still left in England? Why are they all coming here? Are there no more jobs left in England? Do they come here to avoid England's high income taxes? Are they paid more here? I don't get it. In this painful economy, it hurts to see someone from outside our country land such high-paying jobs when our own people are still unemployed? What's behind this invasion anyway?

pj you don't understand chefs. They all have egos as big as Texas, especially the young ones. Ramsay's program has all young chefs that think they are the best. The chef/restaurant business is tough and he wants to make sure who ever wins is tough enough to take the pressure. It seems YOU have never worked in a restaurant.

NO...I am not a chef nor have I ever wanted to be, but I am a customer and a viewer. I would never treat or berate a person like he does. You DON"T have to speak that way to make sure someone can make it in the restaurant business...Please no excuses for his behavior...

YOU ARE 100% WRONG . MY NEPHEW IS O 5 STAR CHEF AND HE DOES NOT GO RANTING AND RAVING IF A COOK MAKES ANACCIDENTAL BOOBOO.

PUT IN YOUR PIPE AND SMOKE IT - IT'S ALL A DISTRACTION TO MAKE PEOPLE WATCH THE SHOW - I BET HE CAN NOT MAKE A CLAM AND LIGUINE DINNER AS WELL AS I CAN. HA AHAHAHAHAH
