If the Republican presidents of the past couple decades hadn't governed the way they had, we wouldn't need this "multibillion-dollar government spending plan." Why the heck don't they GET IT??? Wait, I can answer my own question: because they don't want to. I am one of those convinced that Republicans want a two-class society in the U.S. Well, we've already had enough of one the last 8 years, and look where it's gotten us? They are the puppeteers of their own demise.

I'm so, so glad President Obama was elected and fully support the direction in which he is going. Just a comment about health care in our nation....a woman was charged $80 for one aspirin while in the hospital recently - Anchorage, Alaska! Is there something wrong w/this scene? I also understand that if you are on medication prior to going into the hospital for surgery that you cannot take your already purchased drugs with you to the hospital due to the hospital saying they will provide you your medication. The price they charge per pill is horrid also!! Our system needs so badly to be reformed and thank God it is one of Obama's main issues. I know all the medical and insurance lobbyists will be in D.C. with the support of the Republicans. Our system is so sick!!!

Today I'm truly proud to be an American. I've done my part emailing my district representative and both senators from California as well as the President for support of this reform and I'm much willing to do more.

You need to get more than his back. Maybe you should suggest a little honesty on his part, since he has lobbyist in his own administration.

Im shocked. Obama has a lobbyist!!! McCains campaign had 10 lobbyists, ranging from the Big Oil to Big Coal to Arch NeoCon Randy Scheunemann.

Look, we all know if we're honest with ourselves, that there really is only one person who can solve this financial and economic meltdown, and cool all the hotspots around the globe:

Yours truly. That's right, ME!!.

However, since I prefer to post on this site without scrutiny, and transparency, I'm throwing all my support to President Obama. I feel he is a worthy second choice, and will do a very good job in my absence. Though I am considering a cabinet position, once I amend my tax returns.

President BO has given us the signal. He said it's up to Congress. He's really saying it's up to us. So be ready with that phone, email and fax to tell your Senators and Representatives, regardless if they're Republican, Democrat or independent, to support the budget bill. Let''s prove our voices are louder than those of special interests. Let us also call and visit their local offices, every time that we have. If their phones are always engaged that means a lot of people, should be mostly from us, are calling them. If we live close to DC or happen to be there, let's visit our Senators and Congresspeople. Let's mobilize especially when the bill is in its critical phase in Congress. If we can mobilize to DC even a third of the crowd that turned out on inauguration day, then Congress would get the message. Let the special interests that have milked us dry and their stooges in Congress who have subsidized the rich with our money cringe in fear. We voted for change so let's make it happen.

President Obama stand pat, we're right behind you!

Obama won't be fighting this battle alone.

Entrenched corporate interests depend on disenchanted and unorganized voters to win. In 2009 we will win.

President Obama uses the Hawaii side to try to charm them into reason, but he's announcing that he'll also use the Chicago side to kick ass if he need to. They're not ready for that. That's why he hired Rahm, Biden, Clinton, Panetta--all tough Washington infighters with experience in fighting the rabid Gingrich GOP. It signaled that he was preparing for a very tough bareknuckle battle if necessary. He's the full package--super smart and super tough. The GOP is no match for him. They are currently the party of the, uneducated, and mediocre who have to cheat, bully, and lie to win. Rush, Rove, and Newt are their top strategists. Their total agenda is insults and snark. That's no match in the clash of political ideas.

The bankers, big business and the wealthy ("economic royalists") as FDR called them, hated FDR, who said "I welcome their hatred". FDR had the people on his side, and that was all that mattered. Then as now the GOP had no ideas the people were interested in. Since more and more independents, and moderate GOP people are enjoying President Obama's style of leadership, and genuine concern for their well-being, that is going to be the case here as it was in the '30s. Only the truly selfish, and greedy will be against him. We're going to hear a lot of squealing of greedy, stingy, pigs these next four years. And to think they once called him "Obambi".

I'm glad that the American people are finally beginning to see where the real fault of our economic misery lies. It's not with "welfare queens" or food stamp users or unemployment collectors or illegal immigrants as the Republican party has always led us to believe and still do. It's with the captains of industry and finance who took our jobs, pensions, health care and homes away with the full blessing of the "trickle-down theory" Republicans.

Finally someone is in the White House who will fight for the working people in this country. The neocons are asking the surreal question “Is Obama waging class warfare?” This war began a long time ago, but only one side has had the power to fight. Since Reagan, the Republicans have waged a war of financial genocide on the middle class, redistributing wealth from bottom to top, maximizing profit, doing their best to destroy the worker’s right to organize and secure a decent wage.

Putting aside equality of the sexes, when I grew up in New York in the fifties and sixties, most workers, through decent, unionized jobs, could manage to make enough to allow one parent to stay home and raise children the way they should be raised. Now both parents have to work and are lucky if they have health care coverage. The Republicans have given us the age of part-time jobs and the latch-key child.

George W. Bush did his best to finish the middle class by outsourcing our jobs to the third-world and practicing disaster capitalism with the invasion of Iraq and the massive Katrina boondoggle. Reagan, Bush and Co. have slit the wrist of the manufacturing industry and it’s bleeding to death. The “conservatives” have done this so their rich friends can maximize profit over the corpse of the middle class, and all that will be left are the very rich and the very poor. Obama is waging class warfare?
06:43 PM on 02/28/2009
To pick up on latch-key kids....

It is so sad, what I see in the classroom. Very wealthy families leave their kids to go to the spa or... I have no idea what they do during the day--but they do leave their kids; the neglect is so prevalent in the wealthy it is shocking--

Then-- rural schools... again shocking for different reasons--inherited anger, despair, apathy, angst--

Inner City, I have to say much like affluent--there is something about the extremes of money that does a family/child in.

I have a lot of hope, but I'll tell you we have lost a generation--or 2! of children in this--trickle down time-

This way of doing economics is a sociological catastrophe. The psychological reactions of rural and inner city folk, to whatever degree they happen, are somewhat understandable. What turns my stomach is when overly ambitious yuppies effectively abandon their children, as you described above. I work in a professional environment, and many of my coworkers sicken me. I'm generally opposed to putting people on lots of medications, but maybe yuppiness should be widely treated with tranquilizers.
