This is a great statement of extravagant welcome and hospitality, and good humor too!
I am going to share it with my church community as we are trying to be a more intentionally welcoming congregation.

You don't have to donate any money if you don't want to, yet most churches are in debt though. I mean, Priests only get paid 10,000 dollars a year on average and most individual churches have around 50,000 - 200,000 dollars in debt due to construction or maintenance. Throwing a few dollars there way won't hurt...

Such a blessing.

Every time I see "Our Lady of Lourdes" in print or hear it in someone's spoken word I remember an old (1941) movie I used to watch with my Mother. It was called "The Song of Bernadette" with Jennifer Jones.

Bernadette was 14 years old when the Lady of Lourdes appeared to her. It is one of the most beautiful stories I have heard in my life.

St. Bernadette's died in 1879 and to this day her body is Incorrupt - here is a link...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5711hI04mw&feature=related

Actually the entire movie is online as well in 18 parts.

I cannot agree. The Roman Catholic parish of my childhood was one I was never comfortable attending. It was all-white, mostly Irish, and big-time affluent. The building was beautiful and the stained glass was incredible, but nobody spoke to you. If they did not know you already they did not want to know you, unless your name was Kennedy or Onassis or something. Of course many sermons encouraged huge families, birth control was absolutely forbidden, but show up with a screaming baby and you got the dirty looks. There was an unspoken dress code: in winter, full-length mink coats for women were a must. (Can't afford one? Perhaps you'd be happier elsewhere, Dearie.) I'm so glad all of that is behind me and I'd never go back.

so, what is it that you disagree with????? Because your church was different? I've been to hundreds of churches, of all faiths, and it's the Pastor and congregation that make the church. I've been to "all-white" churches, and let us not forget what just happened in Crystal Springs last weekend.... but to lump all churches as one is ludicrous...

I've been to churches where it didn't matter who you were or what you were, all were welcome. However, there are still many "all-white" churches where hate is spoken. So many think Jesus was white for some reason... Or churches where a "few" control it, more like a social club... Thomas Jefferson was never high on Christianity.. it generally builds hypocrites...

Really people you are surprised at this. The church is like a hopsital where spiritually sick sinful people go to get better by coming to Christ. We want the sinners to come to Christ. Only in Christ salvation and redemption is found.

I am glad that this parish church is publically posting sinful behavious and that their is a place for them to go to get v=better.

I would say churches are more like where those in need of support go to be given lifelong crutches of delusional faith belief to mask the symptoms of whatever their real problems are.

Your crutch is that you don't have faith. You are lost and angry. Once you come to Christ he takes to himself all of your burden. He trully makes us free. Why don't you come to Christ. Let him heal you.

Sorry, I accidentally faved your comment. The MAIN point you got from that article is that, in your view, they "publicly posted sinful behavior"? Reactions like yours are EXACTLY WHY they posted it!

It is not in my view...it is the view of the church which she publically teaches. Have not you been paying attention?  The church continues is mission on earth.

Yes, there are many churches out there that are just as accepting as this one. They just don't get the media coverage. Just as some "Christians" paint Muslims or members of other faiths with a demonizing brush, so do some people paint all Christians with that same brush. If you look for good, you'll find it; if you look for bad, you'll find that also--in any organization.

good point... It really starts with the pastors. We so so much hatred in the south though. The Muslim Mosque in Tennessee, and the many in the town saying that Islam is not a religion, or just last week in Crystal Springs, MS, the church refusing to marry 2 members of the church because they were black... We see these things all the time still. For some reason, many Christians think Jesus was white.. Most Christians have very little knowledge of other religions other than what some Pastor has given them, preaching the "hate" agenda... Unfortunately people tend to lump all Christians in to one barrel.... just like what they do to all Muslims... It's called hypocrisy...

Not long, one would assume. If the nuns are getting the third degree for too much helping of the poor and the sick, and not enough anti-contraception work, just where do these people fit in?
