Would have been nice of Gabby and her Mom to acknowledge the gracious home of her foster Mom (free room and board) and the people who coached her for 7 years before she went with Chow! Look at her official website, it starts with her at 6 years then skips to the last year and one half and her coach Chow! No mention of the work, support, and financial help given by her former gym. No one does it alone, it truly takes a village and when the real story comes out people will realize that!!

Wish you didn't change your name to write this...would have liked to follow your post from the beginning of her career to the end...I don't know her story, but I plan to research it, for this is such a great story.

So happy for Gabby, and congrats to her and all those who supported her.

The President acknowledge her in his speech. "I want to congratulate Gabby Douglas on her win. If I had a daughter she'd probably´╗┐ look like Gabby. What? I have a daughter? Two? Are they in the Olympics? Well, what the heck are they doing with their lives? Vacationing on the taxpayers dime? Hmm. Well, that's a gold medal in my book!"

Hey guys, you're right. But can't we ignore these types? The only way they get any attention is when we respond to what they're saying. Ignore them, let them talk among themselves. And if they take over, leave the site and let them have it all together. Abandon Huffington Post. Sorry I had to post this and get involved but I'm hoping others will follow up on this. Ta, aloha

It wouldn't matter if an individual lived an honest livelihood and spent their days helping others. Their accomplishments will always be dwarfed by people who are spotlighted for playing and being good at a sport.

I am proud of this young lady...not because of her race (I am the same) - not because of her reglious beliefs (iam not the same) but because she is an American, who through hard work, sacrifice, and perseverance achieved something few of us even dream of. Forget the political crap, the spiritual crap....this young lady deserves our congratulations and our pride because of her accomplishments. She can belong to all of us...whether you are AA or Christian or a heathen....just enjoy the wonderful accomplishments of a young AMERICAN woman.

Did you all know team obama is charging the medal winners taxes
on their medals, a gold medal will cost about $9,000 in taxes. Shame

I don't like Obama either. But the tax is on the prize money, not the medals. So it's the tax code that needs an overhaul. The same tax code that favors the Repubs (and the Dems), but you wouldn't know it by liberal comments on the subject.

Happily independent.

They also vaule the metal, but yeah the prise money. You'd think the real Amateurs could be given at least some break but if you are a NBA round ball player making gobs of money, you should pay even more.

Good work NBC.. Can you imagine the outcry from the left is FOX did EXACTLY the same thing? But alas, we'll here NOTHING about it from the group.

That WAS such a weird commercial. It seemed to make no sense in any context.

But you're right. If Fox had run it, it would be headline news, have 20,000 comments, the President would be "outraged" and Harry Reid would be screaming for an investigation.

I bet all the other US gymnasts are jealous of Gabby. Not because she won gold in the all-around but because she has what appears to have a normal family.

16-year old Gabby wins history making gold and honor for both herself AND the USA and we find posters here trying to politicize her accomplishments. Somewhere, Tommie Smith and John Carlos are ROTFLTAO. BTW, T=Their.

Uh oh libs, apparently Ms. Douglas is a devout Christian.

Case in point: Shawn Johnson is a devout Christian and recited the Pledge of Allegiance at the Democratic National Convention in 2008. Besides, it shouldn't matter what faith people have so long as they treat others with respect.

Happy that Gabby won--as she should have--but she seemed a bit overscored on bars [lack of difficulty compared to others] and beam [they were rather kind on her wobbles in the beginning]. Komova's floor was near-perfect, and she should have been scored higher on that one. And Raisman should have won the bronze tiebreaker, given that she performed better than Mustafina on 3 out of 4 events. And I just don't think Mustafina's bars were worth a 16.1. They really need to refine the scoring system, the tiebreaker, and the floor exercise for both men and women.

Komova is a trained ballerina, her floor is beautiful to look at and I believe that fools many viewers. However the level of difficulty is no where near what someone like Aly Raisman (who didn't push herself as far as she is usually capable of) can do nor was her routine as difficult as Gabby's. That was Komova's best floor routine yet, but there was no way she was going to get a 15.3+.

Gabby's beam work is worthy of a medal, IMO and she most likely will get one if she stays clean and composed. Her score during the women's AA was actually the highest awarded on the beams so far. Her bar work is considered to be the best on a national level, but falls short internationally.

Thanks to NBC, I didn't get to see Komova's potential maximum score OR her actual floor score; I had to look it up! Her execution was fantastic, though. She stuck everything, and didn't have any noticeable errors in form. [I personally hate the dance element requirements, but at least the Russians don't throw them away; they tend to perform them with passion.] I'm not saying she should have won, only that she really was underscored for the performance she turned in.

Agree that Gabby's beam deserves a medal. She's the most composed and solid out of the U.S. team so far in the Olympics. However, her 15.5 seemed overscored, based on the harshness of the judges on this event so far. She had some balance checks in the beginning, and a big step on the dismount. She did finish the routine rock solid [other than the step] though, which makes a better impression. It's just a shame that Kyla was a victim of the 2-per rule, since I would have loved to watch her again. Hopefully, Aly will have a better day on individual apparatus beam.
