Absolutely.  Plus you're keeping your money local; it's not going to a company located out of the area.

This article is wrong.

The #1 Farmers Market you should be visiting is your LOCAL one, no matter how small it is.

I have one within walking distance of my house.  It's a small one and only once a week but I can pick up a weeks worth of organic fruits, vegetables and breads. I feel very lucky.

"Top U.S. Farmers Markets Every Food Lover Should Visit"

Well I'm sure they are very nice and food markets are cool. However, I doubt many people are going to fly around or drive around the country to visit them. My farmers market in out in my yard.

I do miss all the great produce that I could find growing up in the Salinas Valley. However, I don't miss the cost of living in Ca.

One of my favorite stands at the Hilo Farmers Market is the Filthy Farmgirl Soap stand! Their producucts are 100% natural, handmade, and loads of quirky fun! They make over 70 different flavors of soap and have free shipping from the website.

the fact that they have a "soap stand"

eliminates them from a real "farmers Market."

Agree, although Pikes Market is more touristy than farmy, I still like to visit when I'm in the area

But even worse, no Eastern Market (Detroit)? One of the oldest and largest farmer's markets and an urban gem. A market for serious buyers with a great atmosphere, and not overrun by tourists.

How can any farm market in Florida not be included in this piece? Is it because they grow food all year? Take a nap, go back and do some more research.

I soooooooooooo concur with your comments. I'm from North Carolina & I am disturbed by the fact that almost half of the list is from a "concrete jungle"...

Not one is from the South, unless you count the "Crescent City" NOLA.

They missed the boat with this list.

No credibility to this list without the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market in San Francisco and the Third and Fairfax Farmers Market in Los Angeles.

I also was wondering how they could snub the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market. Another good one is the Berkeley Farmer's Market where Alice Waters does a lot of her shopping. But it is small compared to the S.F. Farmer's Market. Also I believe Santa Monica has a very good one.

I go to Berkeley's market a lot since I moved to Oakland.  It has most of my favorite vendors that are at Ferry Plaza.  All four markets not only have great products and variety but a great scene and vibe and unparallelled people watching.

Most of the farmers markets featured are in fairly large cities. In California near the central coast is the San Luis Obispo farmers market. Booths and vendors are located on three to four blocks on a major downtown street on Thursday nights. Live music is provided by several different entertainers. Plenty of cooked food to buy as well as fresh produce and fruit.

Were there even any California Farmers Markets in this list? I'll have to go back and check. Seems odd if not.

Yeah, I thought Crescent City and Union Square were that but they are not the one's in Calif. Calif. only got 'legal' for farmers markets in 1977 strangely enough and there are lots of them some are at least as good if not better than any of these.
