Two words - Great Parenting!!!! Tears welling up in my eyes for Bingo and Cole, and the inspiration of one young boy and his devotion to his best friend.

I agree with you, lisaltu. Really great parenting. I wonder if the Hein family has considered
trying to find a homeopathic vet. Here in Canada, there are some homeopathic vets.
I don't know about the states. Only a suggestion. What a wonderful idea to make a treat bucket list for Bingo.

A previous poster stated her dog was diagnosed similarly and lived till 17 years old :)  Yes, we have homeopathic vets here, too.  Wish we could clone this little boy and his compassion :)

I had to read this story to my Teddy dog with tears in my eyes. Run with the wind, Bingo. Woof woof woof, arf arf, woof.

I've had two dogs with CCDS. It's pretty much Alzheimers. I'm not sure why their DVM said Bingo only has a few weeks to live... Mine were both 17 when I chose to say goodbye. They weren't even close to dying, but the severe dementia was more than I could bear.

Could be that he's had it for quite a while and it was only just diagnosed, or maybe it progresses faster in some dogs than others (like Alzheimer's does in people)...dunno. My mom's Cocker Spaniel was diagnosed with heart damage (due to zero dental care from his previous owner - bacteria from the bad teeth damaged the valves). The vet estimated 3-4 months before we'd lose him, but with medication Joe (yes, we named him Joe Cocker) lived 3 more years before making the decision that it was time. And yeah, he's the one who chose the time - he was always very cooperative about taking his medication but the day came when he refused to take it, even when we tried stashing it in hamburger...

What a wonderful home he had for those years! And you are so right - they choose the time.. with my two it was the blank stare - not knowing who I was or even who they themselves were.
Love the Joe name. A friend of mine who is a DMV (I'm a Vet Tech) has a woodchuck that she rehabbing. I asked her if she named him Chuck. She said, "No. We named him Norris." My cousin, whose last name is Nelson, adopted an adult cat who already had a name - "Willie".
Take care! :)

Your foot is nowhere near your mouth right now. It is a terrific, heartwarming story. By the way, I hate crying at any time but espeecially this early in the morning. Talk about restoring a little faith in humanity and it couldn't be done without a dog. Bingo, please say hello to all of my dogs that are in doggy heaven. Their names are Duffy, Mei Sue, Jessie, Prudence and Babe. Hopefully, my wife and I will eventually see them all hanging and playing with you some day.

Dogs, not just service dogs, are the greatest thing that God has created for man. I have two Bichons and to me, they are my life. they come before all things in my life. They are my family. After 5:00 p.m. I will not accept most invitations, on occasion may be one or two in a year, because I believe they deserve my time at home with them. They are the dearest, most loving creatures. We have always had two Bichons, replacing one, when one dies - we only get pedigreed dogs, because my husband thinks if they are a pure breed, they behave better.

Pedigreed or mixed - you're right - dogs are our best friends and greatest treasures.

I bet at the top of the dog's bucket list is to chase a cat and actually catch it , so the little dog can finally shake hands with the cat and hug it.

Very touching story. Perhaps we could give something to our local shelter's. Or the SPCA. There are so many dogs, and cats who need a loving home. I love this story, and I love all animals. Dog's Rule! YAY

I was in tears as soon as I read the headline. This little boy was so very lucky to have this wonderful little dog in his life. God bless them both. I had to put my Tucker to sleep 2 days after Christmas and haven't stopped crying yet. He wasn't a service dog in the strict sense of the word, but he was all I had and my only friend. I hope this little boy will find another fury friend to help him along the way even though he will never forget Bingo and all that he meant to him.

Wow, I wonder what kind of medical condition causes someone to stop breathing like that and to require CPR. That little doggie is so cute, and deserves to be spoiled rotten for his service in saving his owner's life so many times.

a lesson in life, dont wait till the end. bucket lists are procrastinations in life, we live once do it all and never put things off because you will do them before you die, just ask any dead person what they would have done = )
