The dog was doing his job, protecting his owner the best way he knew how. Hopefully he will make a full recovery and be reunited with his owner. "Good dog!"
01:27 PM on 08/16/2012
And the cop was doing HIS job. What is he supposed to do? Wait until the thing latches onto his arm or leg and starts tearing away at him before he responds? And when he does, is the cop just supposed to say "Let go puppy!" until it releases???

I agree the dog should have been put down instead of left to suffer. But be real people. The cop responded how he should have responded to an aggressive dog charging him.

Did I say anything about the cop? DID I? Overly defensive much?
The dog is alive and will heal and hopefully live out the rest of his life with his owner.

that is exactly the kind of situation a stun gun is meant for.

And people wonder why we call them PIGS!!!!

That cop acted prematurely, probably something hes used to. He is obviously trigger happy, and I hope a dog one day gives star some retribution. I hope star makes it.

I did, the dog is alive.

first off, if they were so worried about the homeless guy, why did no one go check on him after they shot the dog. second off, they let the poor dog lay there and suffer. every single one of those police officers should be fired right away. this video makes me sick to my stomach.

because the crowd turned on them and now they had to worry about their safety

This video has litterally made me sick. That trigger happy cop needs to be taken off the force.
01:19 PM on 08/16/2012
but if the dog attacked you would you want to cop to shoot or should he wait until it stopped

Come on get real ,do you really think he wanted to shoot the dog

He could have used his stun gun, that is exactly what they are for.

Omg! Just when i think i have seen it all..i see this >.> What really astounds me is the fact that no one is even bothering to see if the man or the dog are ok.The cops just kind of walk around like they dont know what to do.I watched the video a few times at the beginning and i did not see the dog attack the man.He kind of just ran up to him but i didnt see any kind of threat to the officer. No growls,no attack stance or anything.Real big man to shoot a dog for protecting his master.Shameful.

I was thinking the same thing. Not one officer / person, that we could see, went to the the owner of the dog to check on him throughout the entire length of the video. Glad to hear that the dog is recovering. Would of been nice if the article told us how the man was doing too.

They can only call for an ambulance. If you don't have medical training, it's best not to touch the person.

I always feel sorry for when a dog is shot by the police, but the really disturbing part of this video people are missing is the fact that the cop who fired could have easily have missed and hit the other cop. The cop was lucky enough to have hit such a small quickly moving animal like he did. I am happy to hear that the dog will survive its injury.

I agree on all counts. I was very surprised to see the cop pull the trigger. Bullets can ricochet of pavement pretty easily.

I'm happy the dog survived, but I don't agree with everyone slamming the cops. If they had sent in a paramedic and that dog ended up savaging the guy for trying to administer first aid, then what would everyone be saying.

The real people that need to be ashamed are the ones in this video screaming "fing pig" and trying to capture more videos so that they can post them on facebook.

Cops constantly take cr@p for taking action quickly before anything worst happens and they constantly take cr@p when they take action too late. It's a no win situation most of the time.

If that was a justified reaction to the dog then explain to me why police need stun guns?

because last I heard, this is the kind of situation those are meant for.

That's why every time I see or hear about a cop getting shot, I feel good knowing there is one less murdering nazi in America...
