PREVENTION IS KEY.

Can a child access a septic tank? there is no mention as to the tank itself whether there is a lid to such a tank or if the lid was removed etc. If so how would a child die inside of such tank? Are septic tanks deep? Could he have broken his neck? Can I child suffocate?

I can't fathom how a child who may have climbed inside a tank could then die in only one day. Hopefully, the autopsy will yield informative results.

Poor child.

He shouldn't have been able to access it. They are usually sealed and covered by dirt. It must have been exposed and open for him to fall in. It just isn't likely. More likely, someone thought that no one would find him there.

Ones that are open are generally called cesspools. If there was a lid there would be obvious signs that the lid had been opened as they are just below the soil to allow for pumping or repair and are usually full of liquid because it is a sealed vault and if it is not full it can float when the leech field fills. Such a disturbance would lead authorities to believe that someone hid the child there unless he fell in while they were working on it and noone saw him. Years ago a child went missing and it wasn't until the neighbors sold their house that he was discovered in the septic tank when they performed standard maintenance on the tank as a requirement of selling the property. Even then they might not have found his remains but the pump pulled up one of the cowboy boots he'd been wering when he went missing.

People who live in the country don't feel as threatened as the rest of us do.

Why would a parent or caretaker let a 2 year old who was challenged in some way...physical or mental....play in a wooded area ? Sounda really fishy to me.

Why would anyone let a 2 year old, much less a mentally challenged non verbal 2 year old, play unsupervised in an area away from home?

You don't let a handicapped two year old play in the woods with two other children. If these people did not want this child, they could have put him up for adoption or opted to not have him at all. There is so much cruelty perpretated against children in this country. The whole anti-choice, so-called pro-life movement is a sham. They do not believe that life is sacred. Life has never been held sacred in human history, otherwise we would not have war and executions. The whole anti-choice movement is about controlling women because that movement never votes funding to take care of children that are not wanted or who are born into poverty.

Yeah if they don't want him after he was born they could go back in time and not have him at all. Genius.

Here in Colorado and other places, if a parent doesnt want a child. They can take them to the Local Fire stations and seek protective shelter for them. GENIUS!

When I hear "Kimbley, who was described as non-verbal and mentally challenged" I think that there is more to the story. Start checking out the parents.

All of the septic tanks I know of are sealed there being no way for a child to get inside unless the tank was opened for pumping or some other reason. There's no mention of this in the article nor is there a mention of the tanks location, on the parents property, etc. Or, is it possible the tank was unused just laying around, open where a child could fall or be thrown in? Many questions, few answers.

Agreed, not a very detailed article. Leaves a lot of things unanswered.

I hope it wasn't one of the parents who'd gotten tired of dealing with a mentally challenged child.... Of course they'd plead PTSD or belated postpartum depression, or some other bs if they did do it... Then they'd plead not guilty or if guilty they'd be given probation.

I hope this was a accident with a very sad ending, For I am so weary of stories of parents or guardians killing their children, man so weary and the hard part for me is I am one preacher with limitations for I can only speak to those who God place or cross my path about the joy of our children and the responsibility that goes with overseeing raising a blessing from God and that is what I pray for that I could in more places than I am.

The story, aside from the final answers, seems a little incomplete. Was the septic tank closed? Open? Old? Used?

I can't imagine how a child would get in to a septic tank in the first place. Was it an "active" tank burried underground, or a new one that wasnt' installed yet where maybe he could have crawled in side of it hide?

How many times have we read stories that have been reported falsely. We do not know the whole story. Perhaps the parents thought the child was taking a nap but he got out and was playing with the other children. We just do not know. Like the media has never reported stories correctly.

Yet another example of why people should be required to pass a basic common sense test prior to being able to reproduce.
