I was shocked when he stated that America would be energy independent by 2020. Really???? In 8 yrs? I don't think so. Even if he were able to do that, what would our land, water, and air look like???

Right, and the consumer's energy costs won't come down a bit from the added "independent" supply. 2020? Gas will be over $10/gal. With the majority of Americans making minimum wage (a real if unstated goal), how will we be able to afford to commute to work?
07:56 PM on 08/31/2012
we need to get out of our old mindset.... these greedy oil, gas and coal people are still trying to suppress Nicolas Tesla's inventions on free energy... That is the new mindset..but those making money on the old mindset will die trying to avoid this.

North America -- that includes Canada. It is doable. With new recovery techniques reserves are vastly higher than before.

Romney blasted the new 2015 standards requiring greater fuel efficiency. This tells me he is not interested in energy independence. Conservation is just as important to getting us closer to independence (which would be nice, but will never happen anyway). Opening up US drilling without addressing conservation is clearly just an attempt to hook up his Big Oil buddies with ever greater record profits.

Let the market do the conservation via the price mechanism.
04:28 PM on 08/31/2012
The price would not be escalating so dramatically if we would conserve by using more fuel-efficient cars. Rising gas prices hurt every part of the economy outside the energy sector.

Ah....nothing like looking to the future.

There are more people employed in solar today than in coal extraction. Wonder which one is the growth industry of the future. Pretty clear which one the GOP thinks is.
02:19 PM on 08/31/2012
There is no doubt that Romney is a sellout. He only cares about adding more money into his hidden accounts, just like the people he's helping They are of the same stock. There is no doubt that there is not much Oil or Coal remaining, it will run out. The age of fossil fuels is just a blip in our timeline. Of course this little blip will have significant global impact. The earth will recover over time, but will we?

"Romey's apparent take? Expand oil and gas development, roll back environmental regulations, leave lucrative tax subsidies for fossil fuel interests in place -- and kill the wind production tax credit."

Tax credit for oil, check!
Tax credit for clean energy, f-that!

Energy economic parity achieved indeed... not!

More fossil fuels? Lets run through the list of what fossil fuels have gifted this world so far:
Arctic sea ice hits lowest extent ever measured (and it’s still melting) - check.
Hottest winter, spring, summer, year, decade ever measured - check.
Most extensive drought in 50 fifty years, and getting worse - check.
Worst floods in recorded history - check.
Hottest seas in eons - check.
Most acidic oceans ever measured - check.
Most greenhouse gasses released in a single year - check.
Highest sea levels since Pleistocene - check.
Most permafrost melted (with record releases of methane) ever measured - check.
Massive crop failures and record high food prices - check.
Most severe weather events ever recorded - check.
Scientists predicting this is all going to get much, much worse in the next few decades - check.

When you have the technology to power your civilization WITHOUT trashing the environment AND the rest of your economy, and you refuse to use it, you're a Luddite, a caveman. Romney's energy plan is going to do to the world what Bain Capital did to the companies it purchased.

So leaving the tax subsidies for fossil fuels in place and removing the tax breaks for wind energy is leveling the playing field? I'd love to hear how that works.

Pretty much all of Romney's plans for industry can be summed up this way: "Do what you want and let Americans be damned."

I can see it now, a drilling rig on top of Jefferson's head at Mt. Rushmore; Old Faithful being replace by a natural gas line; The Smokies and The Redwoods being clear-cut for timber. Yes, the future would be bright under the Willard administration...there would be no trees and the atmosphere would be that much brighter because of the greenhouse effect!

Vote for Romney/Ryan...if you're lucky you'll get a very small benefit somewhere down the line!
