I love the hypocracy on the Left. H.P. and Liberals claim to be "green" yet H.P. has no problem taking oil $$$ to run a half page ad on the Front Page.

Actually the joke is on big oil. They're spending $$$ on ads that HP readers ignore.

Worry not people. bp rejects the assertions that there is a problem. If they say there is nothing to concern ourselves with, than why worry?

"Up to 1 million barrels of oil are estimated to remain in the Gulf of Mexico."

Wow, didn't realize that. Had thought BP claimed it cleaned up all the oil.

Honestly, I had not kept up with the status of the cleanup operation and I was under the impression they had recovered most of the oil. I understand that they can't recover all of the oil but I didn't realize that up to a million barrels still remained in the environment.

This is another situation like the financial collapse where I can't understand why some of the people in charge aren't sitting in prison.

Issac "may" stir up the bp oil? Please. That oil will be "stirred up" for decades from future storms. Until it's removed or decays down to nothing, it'll remain for years. Shrimp tonight?
I'll pass.

BP hasn't cleaned it up because it hasn't been forced to because it has rich friends/owners and money runs this country. Get the money out of the elections.

couldn"t agree more. I think it"s the root of our problems. From developing legislation on the local level to the fed level. Our leadership has there hands out for personal gain whether for financial gain or for power (whatever that is) maybe ego plays a big big part. Lord knows I've seen an awful lot of that in the corporate world of the last 30 years or so. What about doing something for the good of the country and it's people. Our most important asset.

Oil is murder!
02:53 AM on 08/30/2012
I posted a question asking about it a couple of days ago. This would be BP's worst nightmare, most people had let the rig explosion escape their thoughts for the endless election bs-a-ma-roll, now BP's name will likely be tied to another hacked oil-fouled beach clean-up.

How many years is BP liable for their oil spill? That much oil could keep burpin' up for decades.

Worst case scenario: Crude oil gets all over everything.
Best case scenario: Crude oil gets refined and turns into plastics, chemicals, fertilizers, gasoline, asphalt, and gets all over everything.

Boycotting sounds great, but unless you drive an electric car powered from solar panels,
you're still polluting if powered from coal. What about all the plastic? We can eliminate a lot of it, but we only recycle about 20% and what about the health industry. IV bags, tubing,
etc.all rely on plastics brought to us via bp, shell, exxon....the list goes on.

Let's have a national retreat.
03:07 AM on 08/30/2012
The US is now exporting oil, much of it to the developing world, which will use to pollute the seas just like BP did. It's all about the money; it's not about energy for America. Since we don't want oceans filled with more oil and plastic than water, we should not be producing MORE of it than what we already have. It's time to make new plastic and fuel out of hemp and put solar panels on every roof. Whatever. But the status quo that includes ever escalating production of NEW dirty energy is somewhat daffy. Not a boycott, but a moratorium on "more of the same."

BP is not the only company that sells oil.  Did you read my comment correctly?  I only called for a boycott of BP.
11:32 PM on 08/29/2012
Yea, you go, do you really think you will hurt them or run them out of business, you won't. We need more oil and they need to work on getting it, NOW!!

BP is not the only company that produces oil.  We can reduce our dependence on oil significantly by driving electric cars and building more mass transit and clean renewable power plants.

I hope that none of BP's hidden oil ends up on any of the Gulf beaches, but if it does, I hope the Republicans in Tampa get a big dose of it on their shoes. They're the ones who want to "drill, baby, drill," even though there's no guarantee that any of that oil will stay in the USA. The oil companies will sell it to China or to whomever will give them the highest price, even though our government still gives them tax subsidies. President Obama and the Democrats want to end those subsidies, but the Republicans want to keep them in place. Guess who gets huge campaign contributions from the oil lobbies!

12:36 PM on 08/29/2012
Most likely, in the depths of the Gulf at 10,000 feet or more the combination of millions of barrels of B/P oil and Fukushima radiation have created horrible mutated monstrosities. Now angered by the crashing waves of Isaac, these 70 ton crustaceans are closing in on New Orleans to seek revenge.
Hunting at night they will smash small towns and devour the inhabitants. FEMA will consider the smashed towns to have been hit by storm caused tornados. The missing people will be considered to have voluntarily evacuated.

Obviously this article is a lie. BP has contained and cleaned the entire spill. I know that because of the TV commericals showing happy coastal residents telling me to come on down and enjoy the clean beach's and water.

*crickets*

Wait, you don't think BP used some of the money set aside for clean up to make these commercials. OMG, maybe the happy coastal residents are actors!

When an event that is supposed to drive gas prices down occurs, but prices stay high, they say: "Oh, well those prices are built in; it's what the station paid six weeks ago, so don't expect a decrease anytime soon" or some other voodoo non-sense

It's an immediate price spike in a disaster. The increase gets tallied right away.

We are being so gouged at the pump. Thanks SEC for allowing XOM and all the other fun mergers that followed it..
