The old 'shareholder Equity' model needs to be replaced as it wants results IMMEDIATELY, and many very valuable things take time which equals investment. We can't invest and wait can we?That is why Firefly did not last. Not an instant hit so a failure. Yeah.

SHIELD really? I like Joss Whedon, but I doubt I'm going to want to watch it. SHIELD is really a group in the comics that you don't root for. They are an obstacle to the superheros most of the time. besides the version in the iron man/avenger movies is they are basically home land security they do a lot of things most people wouldn't want to see in a tv show.

It would be kind of like doing a Task Force -X or Checkmate show for DC comics. When they added those to smallville they were the antagonists not the protagonists.

I would love to see a Task Force X series. John Ostrander's run on the book was amazing.

You might not know it, but SHIELD was a comic book series back in the late '60's. It was actually pretty revolutionary at the time, with its art style and writing.

Yes. It never was the huge hit avengers was, but it did have an influence on how later comic books were written. They took a lot of risks with that series.

I do know it was a comic book in the silver age.   However stories have progressed since then.   they have been more villianess than heroes.    I think my analogy of task force x is appropriate.

Looking at the comments, I get the feeling that most aren't familiar with SHIELD beyond what they've seen in the movies. It's a big concept which, if done correctly could be very promising. Whedon is better suited than any other producer for this property--a universe with a deep mythos behind it.. It could also be taken in a couple of different directions.

SHIELD is the primary HUMAN intervention force against super-human threats, having campaigned against everything from the Hulk to Godzilla (yeah that's right--the big G). The series could focus on their activities that don't involve superheroes, thereby keeping this universe separate from the movie franchises.

SHIELD also has the strong espionage component to it. Basically James Bond, but with much bigger guns. They battle the organizational threats too big and dangerous for any other group. Hydra, with Baron Strucker or Madame Hydra. AIM (Advanced Idea Mechanics), and their original leader MODOK. Infiltration, evil master plans, LMDs, massive commando raids. If they want the series to have a more serious, less comic book feel, this would probably be the way to go and there's room there to build a significant ongoing mythos, which is crucial for any sort of fantasy based television series. The ones that fail are the ones without an overarching story that engages the ongoing viewers.

Gotta have the flying car, however.

Maybe the show will take place before the events of the Avengers and we will get some more Agent Coulson?

As long as it has hot chicks getting it on, I'll watch it. Also, if it has a good story line and good actors. That would help too. Maybe some chickens. What if Sam Jackson had pet chickens?

They would probably have to get the orginal cast members in order for it to work.

Personally any live action show to dilute the plethora of non-scripted reality shows on prime time is a good thing.

Well...I figured they'd focus on SHIELD when it was announced there'd be a t.v. show set in the "Avengers" universe. What else would really make sense? But whatever to that...I want to see the Black Panther on the big-screen. Marvel..Disney..Make this happen.

I predict that Samuel L Jackson will make frequent appearances in the series as a face on a monitor.
