When stuff like this comes out of his mouth when he's trying to be viewer-friendly, think of what he sounds like when he's at home. Yikes.

In John Kasich's America, in a Republican utopia, people like Jay-Z would be off the streets and systematically incarcerated before they had the chance to become entrepreneurs. I like the person Jay-Z has become, but the reality is that Jay-Z's first entrepreneurial experience was selling rocks on the corner, and most conservatives would demonize him for that and ignore his subsequent success.

I demonize him for selling drugs. Selling crack to folks shouldn't be a stepping stone to any place but prison. Rock destroys lives. He could have gotten where he is without doing that. Most folks that go the "selling drugs" route end up do three things. Destroying others lives, spending most of their life in prison or end up dying young.

How can you be completely certain that he could've have gotten where he is without that as a stepping stone? I don't even know much about 'hood life' but I do know that for many people - they don't just sell because it's fun or they want to. It's because they have little to no options (when lack of education, racial discrimination, lack of job opportunities, etc. are an issue) and the allure of the amount of money they can make is high.

But I do agree with your last sentiment and it's quite unfortunate.

It's easy to say that people who distribute drugs to their community are evil, but it's a complex issue. Roxxi pretty much covered it, so I don't think I need to repeat what was already said, but people are forced into hard choices and make bad decisions when they are young, and selling drugs should not be a death sentence. The world is not so black and white, and issues like these deserve nuance and deep analysis, not gut reactions.

I think Republicans pursue racist policies - when they aren't overtly throwing peanuts at and making racist jokes at CNN camera persons at the Republican Convention, that is - but the initial version of this story was highly misleading.
12:26 AM on 08/30/2012
The Republicans just cannot help themselves. This guy makes a non factual statement about an entire race of people and then they wonder why they are called racists and why Romney gets 0% of the African American vote. The fact that banks won't lend as readily and decades of discrimination results in less legacy wealth, has nothing to do with it.

Well, I live in Columbus, Ohio. And in my neighborhood the African American unemployment rate is astronomical--and so is the crime rate here! There are constantly guns being fired in our neighborhood, cars being broken into, helicopters flying around overhead--the whole works. So maybe Kasich is making those comments because of what things are like here in Columbus, and he has a first hand look at the problem.

I'm black and own my own small business and know many who also own businesses. So here is another negative stereotype being toss out about blacks. However, where will all this loan money come from to start all these business? Everything is always so easy for the republicans because republicans don't live in reality. Things always seem easier in fantasy land.

I live in Ohio. When he was running for Gov., he "promised" that the elderly and disabled would be able to stay in their homes or a family members' home for the rest of their lives. He has privatized group homes, and taken off elderly hospitalization or criminally insane hospitalization from funding. They can all 'stay in their homes' like he promised. He actually is Snidely Whiplash who became governor in a state he didn't even live in. He's so much the banker, and his cronies are living off of their new jobs in the State house.

There are thousands of black business, most whites don't know that because they don't do their business with blacks.

If self employment is so good, why didn't Mitt Romney start a biz with his own money? He went to work for a corporation and made big bucks. Ryan has worked for the government his entire career.

Not only that, but his Bain seed money came partly from wealthy El Salvadorian families linked to right-wing death squads.

Give me a break. Since when is Kasich concerned about educating inner city kids and helping new inner city businesses get start-up money? He's constantly slashing education funding and healthcare for the poor and laying off cops and firefighters - which makes their neighborhoods more dangerous and less business friendly.

Hey HP. Who ORIGINALLY edited / posted this story?
Whoever it was should be fired!
Talk about totally misleading.
What was originally presented in the detail of this story is not at all what Kasich really said.
Address this problem - and get rid of that person!
---
My apologizes to Kasich and others who read my posts based on what was a misleading - if not outright false - originally posting of this story / Kasich's comments.

HP... You are censoring more and more 'clean', non-offensive comments like many of mine - yet you fail to police your own story postings.
You need to get your house in order.
