Good news.. Obama is coming today.. would have been there sooner but was looking for votes in Iowa, VA, and Colorado.. Had to beg kids at Univ of Colorado to register... "gottavote".. even the english is incorrect for the web site... Sad to me that this president finds it more important to be begging kids to register to vote than dealing with VICTIMS in LA.... that is him in a nutshell.. its all about re-election..
01:01 PM on 09/03/2012
Sadly just like with Bush, there are malcontents who blame the President.

This was Mother Nature at work. I feel for Louisiana and Mississippi, but come on enough already. Buy a generator. Then you have power in the short run.

And no I am not an Obama supporter. I think he has done some great things, some OK things and some terrible things. But stop blaming the government. Most of us want it off of our backs, so we need to then not demand they do much when something affects us or we are the hypocrites.
01:22 PM on 09/03/2012
he is the POTUS.. he should be there rather than out begging for votes.. if he did his job correctly... he would not be forced to find votes.. when the kids got shot in Colorado.. a battle ground state, he was there right away..

Come on both of you. It's strange that the government is in our back pockets 90% of the time and then among the missing when it comes to doing what their charter calls for; the F in FEMA BTW, does stand for 'Federal". It might be a good idea for each state to stop financial support for such organizations and set up their own state equivalent; during Katrina, the Mexican army got there faster than FEMA.....

Governor Mary Blanco warned that the Army Corps of Engineers plan, bringing the levees back up to pre-Katrina levels would not work, and she refused to take the funding. Bobby Jindel took the funds and recycled them to Shreveport to build up the tourism and film industries. So basically, South La, was not prepared for another major storm. The reality is that Jindel was playing to his GOP base in North La, while ignoring the people of West Florida, and the NOLA region. Jindel also screwed the people of Hancock, Pearl River and Harrison counties in Mississippi, as well as those around Honey Swamp in Saint Tammany Parish in La.This wasn't a Black-White thing, but the sham game of a corrupt politician playing to the base. Jindel has been manipulating federal funds for four years, and tried to pull a slam dunk scam against BP. Time for him to open up a Motel 6 in Gonzales and get the hell out of public office. Yeah, Dems may be corrupt, but Republicans are blatant conmen looking for the next mark

Unless you can back all that drivel up with a credible source, which I doubt; you are a blatent liar; which I think.. You do realize that you said Jindal took the funds for repairing the levees and spent the money for some other purpose......tell us how the levees got fixed and held up just fine during this storm? What the........does West Florida have to do with Bobby Jindal? A good example of your total lack of knowledge......

Part of Louisiana below New Orleans was once part of the Republic of West Florida which was established in 1810. That part of Louisiana, some of Mississippi and Alabama was part of it.

The people in that area are very proud of their heritage. There is a festival celebrating it year. The area is called the Florida Parishes (counties).

Seems like you are a little lacking in your knowledge

Also @ Jim Nash. Jindal does not have anything to do with Mississippi.
03:08 PM on 09/03/2012
Obviously shipfixr is not aware that the West Florida parishes are between Covington and Baton Rouge. I advise him to check out the myriad of articles in the NO Times Picayune and the numerous Blanco interviews on WLS radio. Mississipi's coastal counties never actually recovered from Katrina. Barbour was more concerned with the reopening of the casinos in Gulfport and Biloxi then in helping the people in places like Waveland, Long Beach and Pass Christian. At least this time. FEMA moved beyond political favoritism

Where's FEMA? What about Obama? Isn't he supposed to be able to lower the seas and calm the weather? I thought he was recently being compared to God by his wife. What happened?

hahahahaha that is why FEMA did so little before because the Lousiana Governor Blanco and New Orleans Mayor Nagan would not let them in. Nagan refused to allow relief workers to go to the statium because it would encourage more people to go there. There were truckloads of relief goods sitting in truckstops all along the Texas border but they were not allowed to cross into Lousiana. The ones that did were either turned back or ticketed and threatened with jail. Then of course President Bush got the blame for not forcing assistance on them. Can't win either way can you?

FEMA is right there providing help. And yes, if you Republicans will quit fighting it, Obama will have programs that will reduce climate change which will keep the seas from rising. You can make fun of it all you want but they have been rising and will a lot more with the Republcian "pollute all you want" plan. You are just making ridiculous political attacks. You would have done so no matter what happened.

There is something to be said for at or above sea level. Below sea LEVEL will always flood.

Parts of New Orleans are under sea level. Parts are above sea level but below the Mississippi river. Back when the levees were first constructed, 100 years or so ago, the river started silting in. As the silt settled the river bottom of course rose which made the river higher. The levees were raised to accomodate the higher river. That repeats and now the river is higher than much of the city. As to New Orleans, it was founded in 1718, so don't blame the people that are there now. As to flooding, there are people all over Louisiana and Mississippi with flooding. No matter where you are, when you get that much rain you have flooding.

It's a good thing that power companies spend their money lobbying instead of improving the grid or adding employees (sarcasm).

Power companies keep the number of employees they need to cover repairs due to bad weather. They cant keep enough employees on the payrole in case a hurrican comes thru. Thats why they have arrangements with other power companies to send their employees to the damaged area. We just had a straight line storm come thru my area here in NJ. 250,000 people were with out power. We had repair crews from Ohio, Michigan, Tx, Fla and three other states working on the repairs.
As for improving the grid the biggest thing needed is tree trimming. However, everytime the power co trims trees the home owners get made and the townsorder the power co to stop the trimming.

The master plan should be to return this land to the sea.Its just a matter of time before global warming will accomplish this anyway.

Seems the Corp of Engineers just caused the water to move to other low areas that happened to be populated. Really sad situation that makes one wonder about the master plan assuming one exists.

Waiting for the syncophant media to call Issac, "Obama's Katrina." Won't happen. Not one word about the Anointed One, but a line from his wacko DHS "Secretary." But the media "blamed" Bush for Katrina, and that false mudsling found resonace with the talking heads on TV.

That's because the hurricanes are not on the same level, nor is the federal response, or lack thereof. In short, they are simply not comparable.
