We must at least now understand we need to teach spirituality along with science to our children so they do not grow to be such scientists as deny truth of their findings just to make a little more money. Or even legion of it.

Silly liberals, they cannot find "science" to support their blind faith in "organic" things so they attack the scientists.

"There isn't much difference between organic and conventional foods, IF YOU"RE AN ADULT (emphasis mine) and making a decision based solely on your health." This statement out of the press release would seem to negate the inflammatory HUFFPO headline about "children's health". Either the metastudy did not look at studies that included children, or it did and there was some bad news; I don't have time to read it to find out. Personally I will continue to grow organic and buy organic (when I can afford it) and encourage my adult kids to do so as well, for the good of their children.

So before you become contaminated by the above, here's the actual conculsion from the paper's abstract:

"Conclusion: The published literature lacks strong evidence that organic foods are significantly more nutritious than conventional foods. Consumption of organic foods may reduce exposure to pesticide residues and antibiotic-resistant bacteria."

Which is in fact a well-founded conclusion based on the surveyed data.

Also: The reason the Heartland institute complains about organic farming, is because no one tests whether the imported produce has actually been grown "organically", like the label says. Heartland is not anti-organic as the author would have you believe.

So, a lousy study purported to demolish a 'straw man.'  The lack of toxins and the superior taste is why I prefer organic food.  Toxins taste bad, so it's  no wonder organics taste better than toxin-tainted conventional food.

I said this before and I'll say it again: the published report appears to be a "literature review" which is not, in the world of scientific publishing, that big a deal. So they come from Stanford. So did former Secretary Rice.

So what if it's a 'literature review'? When Joe Blow Consumer reads it, they will assume that they are being told that they don't need to worry about trying to eat better by buying organic and they'll happily buy the pesticide laden regular produce and it will wreak havoc on their hormones and potentially cause a number of other issues in children. People don't know/understand the subtleties (if they exist) as you've pointed out. And perhaps it doesn't matter if it's a literature review or one actual research project - maybe the outcome is the same, i.e. they are telling people to buy cheap produce (as opposed to organic) and those people will pay the price with their health because they're being lied to.

Not only is organic more nutritious, it is not packed with man-made pesticides and chemicals and it is not "genetically engineered"/artificially engineered or grown. The fact that fruit and vegetables are picked before they are ripened and ripen on the back of a truck in the dark instead of with sunlight like they are naturally supposed to do, should tell anyone that America's food supply is extremely unhealthy. At least with organic is is more likely allowed to grow and ripen naturally, is chemical and pestiside free, and orgranic growers are not leaving tons of pestisides and chemicals behind to leach into the soil and ruin it for hundreds of growing season to come.

Modern "conviences" have created a disconnect between people/Americans and food/food fit for human consumption.

You could create a timeline and graph the increase in childhood diseases, like children with diabetes and autism, diabetes in adults, obesity, ADHD, and the overall unhealthiness of the American population, with the start and rise of corporate farms, the use of man-made chemicals and pestisides, and the amount of processed foods/fast foods eaten by Americans.

The fact that women that come from countries that have little or no breast cancer rates, like Japan, come to this country and begin to develop breast cancer is the biggest red flag that the American food supply is tainted and that there is something very wrong America's environment.

Here's how nutty it is to believe that chemical companies conspire to sell their poison, whether it hurts people or not: Scotts (turfbuilder, MiracleGro, etc) just pleaded guilty to a whole host of CRIMINAL charges for mislabeling numerous pesticides and other hazardous products that could have harmed people, making false reports to the EPA to avoid getting caught, and selling 70 million units of bird seed it had intentionally sprayed with a pesticide known to kill birds and kept doing it after its own scientists warned that it was going to kill wildlife. They're paying a $12.5 million fine. Now, unless ONE guy did all that--it had to be a criminal conspiracy, which is two or more people who work together to do something illegal. And I doubt the guy who sprayed the birdseed was the same one who filed the EPA reports and designed all the labels. Here's the EPA press release: http://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/2012/September/12-enrd-1088.html

Finding the truth about food safety is like trying to find chicken teeth. Money/greed has turned too many of us into liars. But, at least it's keeping the fact checkers busy.
Buy local, organic, grow your own, or join a food co-op.

Organic food costs more and spoils faster. With that in mind, it caters more to wealthier folks.

I buy organic bananas and a bunch will last the whole week.

If I buy conventional they don't taste as good and they are all turning black in three days.

Your premise is flawed.

Depends on the customer.  In poorer regions of the world, faster spoiling is bad because many live distant from the market.

Three completely organic things: Hemlock, Cyanide and Amanita Phalloides (deadly mushroom). Be very afraid if a non-thinking "organic is always better" person wants to give you some food.

Whats your point? And how do you know those things are deadly? Have you ever eaten hemlock or Amanita? Have you seen someone die from Amanita? I have actually read that is was used as a hallucagenic during early christian times. This is what the article is about. Disinformation about what we should and should not eat and why.

Amantia use goes back much further than that...

Civildebate10 thinks that they are making a salient point, in regards to organic agricultural practices.

They are wrong.

They should have spent more time as a child watching Sesame Street's "One of these things, is not like the other thing" sketches.

Organic agriculture is in essence a cultivation of SOIL, It is the line of thinking that having a wide range of micro-flora, organic matter, allows plants to reach their full potential, yielding more flavorful and nutrient dense food.

It does.

Using conventional petrochemical and industrial farming practices wrecks havoc on the environment as the chemicals they use to fertilize, kills the micro-flora over the years, and turns the soil into a lifeless sponge for chemicals which do allow the plants to grow... but with inferior produce. These methods are not wise or sustainable, but they enable a few to reap huge profits.

Then there is the entire fiasco of pesticides, herbicides and GMO's

Organic practices are superior to all of that in every way.
