I'm glad to see the officer in question fired, and the students compensated in some way.

What I'd like is to see this roll uphill a bit more so that it has an actual impact on the lives of the people who felt comfortable at ordering the police to remove peaceful protesters using any force they deemed pertinent to the task.

It was assault, and he should be in jail.

Pike should be in jail.

The UC system should start at the top and fire the Chancellor who has allowed her police force to act this way.

I agree, right up the ladder it should go,personal responsibility should be laid at their doorstep.A settlement does nothing but raise the students tuition's or fees through the budgetary process.

Uni cops used to be unarmed. Now they are fully militarized. Students are the "enemy". It's them against us. Long past time for this to stop. The pepper spraying, as bad as it was, at least did not result in anyone getting killed. That hasn't always been the case.

I agree,we don't need Kent State replayed ever again.

The Right has never found fault with the muders of the four students at Kent State, even the young girl shot dead on her way to class. They would shoot anyone of us if we questioned authority, if they could. They fear "govenrment"-what they really fear is freedom.

Pike (verb - as in "to pike"): The act of police brutality whereby unarmed, non-aggressive protesters are pepper-sprayed at point blank range.

I am somewhat relieved that the students who were piked on the campus of UC Davis received a settlement.

Good for them.

Whatever settlement they get should come right out of the pocket of the officer who had his finger on that can of pepper spray.

The chancellor still has her position. Perhaps the settlement requires her to resign once it is approved. Stay tuned.

I am truly so happy for the protesters getting something out of this. But why wasn't pike charged criminally for his actions? Getting fired was close to nothing compared to what he really deserved, like spending time in a cell with Buba.

It concerns me that police are using pepper spray as a form of attack rather than defense. When this happens, you know the police are acting in an immoral and illegal way.
