Yes we see how ignoring people have worked our for the country. I know properly greeting people can be a scary thing for the GOP. Why try to get along when you can have tea parties and hate people here and abroad. Your hate is tearing the republican party apart. I am so glad your side lost.

these fools haven't learned that we are not an island unto ourselves. It's not just about the United States; we've become a global community and we need to start treating other countries with respect! There will always be disagreements, but I'm sure there are areas of mutual interest. We have been governed by fear for seven years and we're no safer, even though Cheney thinks we were safer under Bush! That's a myth! You know why the world is taken with him? You may not want to believe this , but in Obama, some of these leaders identify with him. They see an African American man, who might be able to understand how they feel! This country took a big step in November; we reached out to a black man and elected him as President. The election, alone gave the US a new found respect from other countries. Why not use that respect to see what other countries are willing do! Nothing beats a failure, but a try! Finished preaching now!

Thumb sucking republicans like gingrich are terrified that Obama will unify the hemisphere and undo all of the damage of bush and the republicans. The republicans have become mindless bottom feeders unfit to hold any elected office.

Why do we hate Hugo? Because he kicked out Exxon-Mobile. Didn't Hugo give the poor people in the Northeast free home heating oil. Matbe it was a PR stunt, but what has Newt done for the poor lately?
05:18 AM on 04/21/2009
Chavez has done many good things...but he is vain (has his own tv show) and is showing tendencies to suppress criticism.

There is an excellent, fair, balanced documentary on PBS Frontline's webiste about Chavez...you get the picture that on balance he's a good man fighting powerful corrupt forces that have ra ped Venezuela and left the majority poor all these years...but you also get the impression he likes his position more for the power than for actually helping the people...still many slums and poor after many years of Chavez...his changing the Constitution so that a pres can serve unlimited time would be political suicide, imo.

I wonder about the Republicans. First of all, I wonder how anyone in his right mind can be a Republican. Secondly, that tremendous phony, Newt Gingrich, who has been shown to be such a piece of excrement on so many occasions in the past, now appears as a possible new leader of the Repugs. Fine, they have dug up one of their most disreputable leaders, of which there are many and he now pontificates against Obama who he thinks is too soft on our enemies and too apologetic about America. The Republicans criticize Obama if he smiles too much. The thing that most galls them is that Obama's approach is working whereas all Bush did was antagonize every mother's son everywhere. They are all just different shades of Rush Limbaugh. Newt is another one who should have faded into the background years ago.

You are absolutely correct.

Republicans find it necessary to differentiate themselves from Obama, and to defend their past. A horrendous problem for anyone.

Obama is so wholesome and successful there's not much lattitude for differentiation. When the light side is your opponent, the dark side is all you're left with. Republican past is dark side incarnate -- the bulk of their resume.

Im scared of ppl like Newt who want America in a perpetual state of discord with nations. Im not saying the chit-chat between Obama and Chavez will result in anything significant, but the mere fact of cooling of tensions roils these ppl. They are scary and they will lead to the destruction of America.

Why not look at history before concluding that... whenever we've had 'weak' presidents, our enemies took advantage of it... and put many of our allies in danger.

Newt has the right approach... it's a responsible approach for preserving humanity.

Newt and Fox have conveniently forgotten about Bush kissing and holding hands with that same Saudi king. And let's not forget the Rumsfield-Saddam Hussein handshake.

I guess his campaign song could go something like this -
"All we are saying is give war a chance..."

I swear to God I hear the words coming out of their lips, and I think I must be dreaming...

"How do you mend relationships with someone who actively hates your country?" You might start with a SMILE AND A FLIPPIN' HANDSHAKE, you axxhole...
05:12 AM on 04/21/2009
it's sad that they don;t ask why there is hate...sadly, anyone who reads history will know..many south Americans are upset that the US keeps interfering in their domestic policies..leave them be..they will stop hating if you show a lil respect..thank god the warmongers and haters are gone..but don't let your guard down..they are still lurking everywhere

The Repubs are the opposition party - they oppose everything that Obama is trying to do. It must just make them crazy that the world is starting to like American again and it isn't because of them. We have too many real problems in the world to care about who shakes whose hand. Obama has moved to a higher place and that is driving them crazy - he isn't reacting to their smoke and mirrors but rather he is reacting to real world issues. And you know what - it feels good!

Newt is an ankle-biter sitting on the sidelines with nothing to contribute.

It's clear that the GOP is adopting an unAmerican opposition to a new president. In the past we gave new presidents a chance. The GOP is hellbent on trying to deny anything it can to an obviously successful new president.

Newt is little more than another overfed, jowly, wife-shucking WASP with a chip on his shoulder.

These repubs are so funny, screaming about "bowing" to the Saudi king. Anyone remember the video of Bush doing the "sword dance" with the Saudi royal family at a celebration last fall? It's okay for a repub president to kiss the Saudi's backsides. Just like it's okay for Norm Coleman to take money from someone named Nasser..but if a Democrat did it, you'd hear screaming and yelling.

If we normalized relations with Cuba today, there'd be McDonald's Golden Arches popping up all over Havana within six months and The Revolution would be over. Strategically, this embargo stuff is just ridiculous. All we've proven is that we can hold a grudge. I guess that's all the conservatives require.

"Fredo" is a boogeyman (note spelling) that "the left wants you to despise?" Are you serious?

How about using "your own mind for once," to quote you, and agree that Albert Gonzalez must first honor the congressional subpoena he has ignored so far, show up before the House committee which summoned him to testify, tell the truth about the serious allegations that have been lodged against him for his conduct as attorney general in the matter of the U.S. attorney firings, etc., and then let the chips fall where they may.

Like so many others in the Bush-Cheney administration, he faces serious and potentially criminal charges, and that's before we talk about the whole torture issue.

So, please explain how Gonzalez is a mere "boogeyman," if you don't mind.
