I was wondering when the argument would start...

The rescuers represent the very best in human nature. The impaired driver represents the worst & lowest.

In the early 2000s I called my son in Buffalo NY to ask him about the big winter storm. He said it took him 3 hours to drive the usual 45 minutes from college. Continuing, he said a woman had spun out in front of him hitting a lamp pole hard. He pulled over to check on her. She had a big lump on her forehead. "Ma,she was kinda out of it seeing me next to her car." He saw smoke under the hood of the car, didn't tell her, and convinced her to get into his car to stay warm, he asked about her family to "keep her awake in case she had a concussion," called 911 to report the accident and ask for EMTs. About 3 minutes later the car's engine burst into flames. Twenty minutes later the police and fire department arrived, putting out the fire, that had then engulfed the entire car. The woman went to the hospital. I asked my son what he'd talked about. He said, "Nothing. I didn't even tell her my name. I let her talk about her family to stay awake. It seemed to keep her calm too." I asked him why he didn't give his name. He replied, "Because that's how you raised me. You always said doing something nice or helping someone is about them not you. She didn't need to know my name. She needed help."

I read "The Greatest" about 25 years ago.

In his autobiography, Muhammed Ali, says

"Service to others is the RENT I pay for my ROOM here on Earth."

That's how I try to live, but sometimes I fail, sometimes miserably.

Thankfully these good samaritans were there to save him and his cousin. And for that drunk driver, was he arrested? He needs to lose his license - NOW.
Overall message I guess would be: there still are some good people out there in the world :)

I really hope that the drunk driver is brought up on charges and has their license taken away.

Drunk driver is illegal in NJ, so yes the driver will be changed and lose his licence. Most likely he will face other charges as well. He wont be driving for a long time.

I would like to see them face some jail time as well. Drunk
driving is illegal in all 50 states, but it seems that the laws should become
more strict on it.  Say if a person gets
behind the wheel drunk and gets caught, they have to serve jail time for possession
of a deadly weapon or something like that.

Great to hear the good things people do!
So glad Greg and his cousin are getting a second chance. I hope the 22 year old drunk can salvage something from his life and spread the word that driving drunk not only ruins your life, but others.

God's plan didn't work thanks to this wonderful Samaritan.

An invisible bearded old white man in the sky who practices magic and likes to smite folks when he's angry. A man who impregnated his mother to give birth to himself.

I'd much rather just thank the good samaritan

No need to be disrespectful...just let a feel good story be that... a feel good story. No need to bring it down by bringing your own personal beliefs into it...thank God, thank the good samaritans...when you have been saved from the brink of death, you have the right to thank whoever the hell you want to thank!
12:45 PM on 09/25/2012
Hey man,
you are entitled to your beliefs and have every right to that, but there is no no need to insult and mock other peoples beliefs. I am saying this as someone who doesn't necessarily follow a specific faith.

So unless you got something nice or constructive to say, just shut up and go be miserable on your own. Thanks.
