One knows when it is "ALL WRONG".....I cried and vomited at the same time seeing those photos.
If it was good for our country's safety....why does it feel so dirty, and why does it make one feel sick?

I know this is serious business, and I agree with your outrage, but the image of someone crying and vomiting at the same time is funny to me.

Because it is so morally repugnant. Look at some of the soldiers in those images, our soldiers. Do you see any humanity in their smirking, grinning faces? We, this country, did that to them, along with the harm we did to the actual prisoners.

Remember the old saw about character?

The guy said to her, "I'll give you $100,000 to 'sleep with you."
She consented. He went on, "How about $100?"
She replied, "I'm no hooker."
He said, "OK sure, but now that we've agreed that you are wiling I'm just negotiating the price."

Some are believing the end justifies the means ie: The lives lost in 9/11, our paranoia, or our ineffectiveness justify torture when really, our personal and collective character is on the line. Others equivocate with, "Only three were waterboarded, doctors were present, or argue the effectiveness of the torture. Our reality is that we tortured.

The only forward moving question is, what will we do about the fact that we tortured?

What's an even bigger national shame than all of this is the fact that a large segment of the population still doesn't understand why most of us have a problem with it. If it was hundreds of years ago, those same people would be torturing people who said the Earth revolves around the Sun or that the Earth was round and not flat...violent opposition to facts and a changing understanding of what we understand to be the Truth will always be the hallmark of this ignorant, hate-filled portion of humanity.

Copernicus got out of that one by saying that, okay, the sun revolves around the earth, even though he had developed conclusive proof of the opposite with his trusty telescope. The mere threat of torture was enough. It's a different deal when it's your fingernails that will go in the pliers. There are even some today who would put Darwin in the rack over his evolution theory if he weren't already dead. Even he might relent and go with the seven day mudball theory if his fingernails or other sensitives were in the pliers of some of our zealots.

So tell me, do these photos appear to be scenes where normal interrogations occurred? This is what some of you are defending, along with waterboarding.

If ever there was a time to stop this double standard the Bush administration set up it is now.

I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, Dick Cheney's chief of staff, lied to federal attorneys about disclosing the name of a covert CIA agent, Valerie Plame, compromising her position and jeopardizing the national security of the United States. His act was treasonous yet Bush commuted his sentence and he never served one day in prison.

Yet, Martha Stewart served 5 months in jail for lying about a stock transaction she made over the phone shortly before ImClone's chief executive, Samuel Waksal, dumped stock in his company when he failed to get FDA approval for a drug ImClone produced.

Bush, Cheney, Wolfowitz, Perle and other architects of the Iraq War last year denied ever authorizing torture against prisoners at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Iraq, Afghanistan and other secret locations but it has now been proven beyond a doubt that they sought to implement the torture policy before they got a legal team to re-write and re-interpret laws. These were post-ex-facto laws which were in direct violation of U.S. and international rules against using torture against other human beings.

Bush, Cheney, etal, should be forced to testify under oath, in front of a public hearing and be made to answer for their crimes against our country and crimes against humanity.

I think I may have figured out why the waterboarding-defenders don't get it. They have the same disdain for the human body and it's instinctive reactions that they have for nature in general. They find their arrogant minds so superior that they can't imagine a situation in which the body takes over. Which is what happens in waterboarding: You might tell yourself a million times that you are not actually drowning, your body will disagree in a most powerful way, in a way you simply can't control.

So they call it "rough interrogation", they call it "pouring a little water down a guy's nose", because the primal fear that wins over any "rational" thought is something they can't admit exists.

Ironically, that's exactly what happens in THEIR minds: Their fear wins over their rationality every single time they make their case.

Actually you should keep muttering to yourself that the enemy terrorist would much prefer us being a "muslim nation", "muslim nation" , "muslim nation" "muslim...." where their means of torture is death by beheading, being whipped to death, having fingers chopped off one by one, stoning, and many other unspeakable REAL CRIMES against humanity.

Seeing as how Dick Cheney is so big on torture, why not employ him to test different methods? He could give a thumbs up when he feels like he's drowning for example. Or, if the anguish wasn't quite up to his standards, he could signal for more.
