It is long past time to bring our troops home.
The russians sacrificed thousands of their young people in a failed effort, why can't we learn from their failure?

i spent 3 yrs in the military during vietnam. 2 yrs in southeast asia in combat support. we all stood behind our government but none of us could see where we were accomplishing anything. the people simply wanted peace so they could raise food to feed their families. they did not care who ruled over them. the american government decided that the corrupt puppet government in power was better for the people than the communists. we never giot to find out if they were right, but the vietnamese seem to be doing fine without us. same for afghanistan. what are we accomplishing besides lining the pockets of all the bureaucrats under karzai. the people most likely dont give a tinkers dam about politics and only want to raise their families in peace.

More reason for him to be at home. What ever is he doing in Peru? besides wastring jet fuel and squandering our money.

And still theres not end in sight! Theres an endless supply of money to pump into violence which quite clearly is getting no one anywhere very slowly. Think what we could do with the mopey that is wasted in Afghanistan after all I though the government were making cuts, obviously only cutting the essential! When will they realise that blowing each other up won't solve anything. People need to be adult about these things and talk at least try if, because it won't cost nearly as much and can't be anymore violent!

Is America for the 3,000 dead Americas milestone?
10:58 PM on 10/07/2012
It is 2,000 but still 2,000 too many, get the F out of where we are not wanted!!!

Such a shame that only Ron Paul would have stepped up and ended this madness immediately.
So obvious that we could be there another 12 years and end up with the same results; only with more dead Americans and billions of wasted dollars. Would love to know what the candidates would say to the question of "Had we NEVER entered into this "occupation", exactly what negative aspect would have occured here in the USA??"

While I like Ron Paul, I think he supported going into Iraq and Afghanistan only to do about face once the body bags started coming home. Actually, out of Obama, Romney, or Ron Paul, only Obama was against going into Iraq.....not sure what Obama's views were of going into Afghanistan.

So, as we start the 12th year of war,
there is still no plan on how to really end it, only something of a plan for how and when the Americans will leave.
Even worse, there never was a plan on what the Americans wanted to accomplish, how to do that, and what would constitute 'winning'.
Neither Democrats nor Republicians have a plan or a rational 'way out'. In the end, the Americans will simply cut and run, leaving yet another unsolved problem to work itself out in the bloodiest possible way.

Absolutely.
Since the early 1950's the Americans have slowly lost their technological advantage and industrial base to a rebuilt Europe and an emergent Asia. Instead of investing in research and development, instead of developing markets abroad, the Americans have gone the way of 'defense contracting' and a 'consumer economy' neither of which actually produces any 'goods' that can be sold on a market. The vaunted 'American Century' lasted less than 50 years.

Whenever a debate comes up about the Afghan war, I wonder why some of the soldiers who have been there knee deep in the fighting haven't spoken up and shared their views on this senseless war?
02:21 PM on 10/07/2012
Before you speak up about a war you know nothing about, maybe you should just think about that.

Then perhaps you can explain to me what I don't know about the Afghan war? Or better still what I should know?

I do know the history of Afghanistan and nobody has won a war there yet. I also know you can't march into a nation and think the people there are going to lay down and surrender. It didn't happen in Iraq and never did in Iraq's long history with the British. Forty thousand British soldiers remains still lay beneath Iraqi soil.

People are proud, they don't want other nations pushing them around and telling them what to do. That's why the Iraqi's asked us to leave and why Obama pulled us out of there. I don't know why, when the Afghans fight back we call them terrorists!
