We have problem's in our country and 50 shades of grey is not on top of my list of concern, if I was both ladies I would slapped who ever asked this silly question.

Wow, liz benjamin appears to be a serious reporter, but based on her question, it seems that she is just talent.

My family are not voting for Senator Kirsten Gillibrand when on her TV ad she is supporting to force the Catholic Church's Parish, Schools, and organizations to pay and to promote contraception and abortion to its employees
09:59 AM on 10/24/2012
Parishes and schools are exempt. Organizations who main purpose is not "spreading the faith" are not. These organizations employee many non-catholic people. Who are you to force your religion on others? If the church wants to enter the secular business world, it has to follow the same rules, regulations and laws as any other employer. If they don't like it, then they can staff these organizations with priests and nuns.
08:48 AM on 10/25/2012
One is unable to staff organizations with priests and nuns...that is discrimination based on religion. Heck, you can't even staff your home with a roommate of choice it seems....A case was dropped against a Michigan woman seeking a female christian roommate. She placed a card on her Church bulletin board stating, "I am looking for a female Christian Roommate". US Housing & Urban Development has dropped a case against a 31yr old woman that was charged for housing discrimination. HUD "gives permission" that the "complainant" may file a civil action in a federal or state court within two yrs. So the govt did try to step in as if they have a right to tell this woman who she can or cannot seek as a roommate. They had a problem with her choice obviously. I do not attend church. I do believe in God, and ones choice to represent or to follow their faith. I do not believe someone that seeks employment knowing it is a faith based organization should whine about their female reproductive rights, government involvement to push contraceptives on any religious establishment whatsoever is wrong. Force yourself to pay for your own crap, or don't apply for the job.

What an absurd question to ask in a debate. Hey, just ask me. I read all roughly 1,500 pages of the trio.

I really wish they had both chastised her immediately for such an asinine sexist question.

Please ask this absurd question to Bloomie, Mittens, Akin and No Numbahs Ryan.

these debates-including the Presidential one is a disgrace to the nation and the American people -and only demonstrates what these politicians and corporate media think of the American people-wake up citizens-reality TV is not reality.

unbelievable. And I cant believe Kirsten wasn't offended as well. This says to me that a debate between two female opponents (who happen to be attractive) isnt to be taken seriously and that they're there for entertainment and are expected to just roll with such an idiotic in appropriate question.
I'd be livid. (love kirstin though!! and am a proud NYS resident.)

Any wonder why women in the USA are still second class citizens ? Even in a political debate they are asked assinine questions to keep them in line.

Yes, and this horrible sexist,violent,woman-hating novel is so popular with women because they are still second class citizens, and it's doing a good big job in helping keep them that way!

Probably the republican one. They're usually stupid enough to enjoy trash writing like that book.

I'm with you, after reading a summary of what the books are about in my TIME mag I just had to roll my eyes and sigh. I was caught off guard when my sister-in-law, whom I never see, approached me at a family gathering and asked me if I was reading the books. When my response was a gasp of disbelief, she retreated as if embarrassed and sheepishly said she started but then didn't get past the first chapter...right. I refuse to make E.L. James any richer by reading her trash novels. She has some answering to do after she leaves this earth, as does anyone that peddles porn.

The only acceptable reply: "No, I'm not into fanfiction."

And Fifty Shades Of Woman-Hatred And Violence would make a great hanbook for all of the rapists, wife beaters and serial killers because it re-enforces the dangerous woman-hating society's myth that women love and deserved to be abused!

The replies should have been, as a woman and a political canadiate I'm really angry that you would even ask me such a thing,if I read an extremely sexist,woman-hating,violent,dangerous,damaging,pornographic novel about a sadistic,sexist,woman-hating violent man,who gets pleasure in brutalizing a woman who is his lover and wife(I read a bad review Amaon.com UK by a woman who read all 3 books and in her review for the last book,Fifty Shades Of Freed I think is the title, she said Christian hits Ana when she's pregnant! And she said the author's mind comes from a dark place and she never should have spewed it's contents with the world, and that she hopes she'll never write another book again, and that the author needs help!) and that portrays the woman as loving him and loving to be brutalized by him! What a crazy, cruel woman-hating world we live in! The same world that this horrible book is so disturbingly popular with women in!

As acclaimed radical feminist psychologist Phyllis Chesler points out in her great 1994 book,Patriarchy Notes Of An Expert Witness, most wife beaters, child sex abusers and serial killers are addicted to pornography. She also said that you can find such self-hating and woman-hating behavior among women everywhere,in churches, families and sorities and she said proclaiming oneself a feminist doesn't unfortunately inculcate one from sexist behaviors because of the crazy woman-hating society we live in.

Thomas Jefferson said "Ridicule is the only weapon which can be used against unintelligible propositions."

Lecturing the person who posed the question is less than pointless, it's counterproductive. The question must be dismissed out of hand and ignored; giving time to it only makes it appear as if it deserves time.
