Legalize and regulate hard drugs. End about 90 million different problems.

"End about 90 million different problems" but start 90 million new ones!

Can you prove that?

Anyone that wants hard drugs already has access.
Just stop throwing gov't money away on poorly-intentioned interventions. All that does is prop up construction contractors and unions, as well as for-profit prison corporations and their corrections officer unions. Waste of money, time, and lives.

hard drugs are a different breed than soft... even amsterdam didn't legalize the hard ones... they just decriminalized them so the police don't spend their days going after the wrong kind of crime. Soft drugs are more likely to only have victimless crimes... hard drugs create victims... like the family and friends watching their addicted relatives fall apart.

is it just me or does he look like Chuck Norris?
07:52 PM on 05/07/2009
chuck norris, eh? perhaps YOU should go to drug court.
04:35 PM on 05/07/2009
Better yet, completely stop arresting people for doing drugs. Of course, he was driving(doing a legal drug), so he needed to be arrested. I'm glad he was helped.

Unfortunately, sounds like there's still a bit of denial going on.. "My band had broken up"

You broke it up, Trey... Never forget "Mike said no!"

This is a step in the right direction but if I get pulled over (sober) and the officer smells pot, I would be sent to a drug court for a "problem?" Full legalization is the only way to insure individual rights to privacy.

About 20 years ago, I was driving into Canada for a vacation. As we pulled up to the border guard, a grandfatherly figure, he asked the usual questions, i.e. what are you going to do in Canada. We told him we were on vacation. He then asked if we were going to "the fish convention" and told us they had sold 10,000 tickets. I replied that we were indeed going to the fish convention, thinking he was talking about going fishing. Suddenly, his demeanor changed, and I could tell we were about to get pulled in for a strip search. Then it occurred to me - what the hell is a fish convention and how could they sell 10,000 tickets for such a thing, so I asked him, "What's a fish convention"? That's when I realized he was speaking of a Phish concert and he realized I had no idea what he was talking about. His demeanor changed back to your grandfather. I told him we were planning on doing some fishing and he waved me in to Canada, wishing me a good time on vacation.

I love that story.

Warning: Phish story:

It was the winter of '92-93. There was a jazz mandolin band led by Jaime Masefield playing around the Burlington area of Vermont. At one point, Phish returned home from touring. A band called "Bad Hat" formed spontaneously one night at a small cafe called "The Last Elm," a small pizzaslice-shaped building, when Trey and Jon Fishman sat in with Jaime's band. There was no sound system, just the musicians' amps, and the place was packed of course, with the windows open in the snowy but windless winter night, because of the body heat inside. People listened outside on the sidewalk in the cold. Fish had on top of his head one of those cloth hats that has eye, nose and mouth openings, that looked like maybe it was something his mom gave to him as a kid. Trey and the others made fun of Fishman's goofy appearance throughout that night, and that's how the name Bad Hat came about.

I once partied with Leftover Salmon. They were great, shame about the death in the band.

Gateway drugs will be gateway drugs as long as there are those who wish to get higher and higher. If Trey can't handle it, he should indeed stay away.

I have no gateway drugs. I have tried, I just can't get addicted to anything but dog shows, and that seems to be under control, that industry is in near ruins too.

But Trey, why no show in Miami, I live here now, not DC. Where's my Phish? And why has my son not finished my Phish CD's? Oh, wait I will ask him when he gets home from school.

Split open and melt.

Does anyone else not see the fallacy of asking former drug abusers about the efficacy of marijuana being a gateway drug?

THEY'RE ADDICTS !!! EVERYTHING IS A GATEWAY DRUG !!!!

THEY HAVE WHAT IS TERMED, "ADDICTIVE PERSONALITIES".

If you take a broader cross section of the populace, you'd find that alcohol is even more prominent as an introductory drug. The truth lay, more likely, amongst the broader population rather than the addicted groups.

The only value, to be garnered from the addicted, is as cautionary tales.

cigarettes are the main gateway drug, but the entire concept is a fallacy.
01:32 PM on 05/07/2009
I disagree, obviously peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are the true gateway drugs, studies show that 95% of hard drug users started on PB&J.
03:30 PM on 05/07/2009
Milk is the Gateway drug of all time.

Nearly 99.9 percent of all drug users started with milk,

many "snorting it" as well!
04:53 PM on 05/07/2009
I've even reverse-snorted water while laughing. I'd like to see someone do that with Cocaine.
