Pizza is not life-changing much like off-shore banking is not election changing.

Portland, Oregon's Hot Lips pizza takes all honors. Once you try it, you'll know...:-)

Hot Lips? In the same town as Apizza Scholls, you bring up Hot Lips? No way! Scholls is the best Neapolitan pie I've ever had and the best pizza in Portland. Have you been to Apizza Scholls? Just curious..

How can pizza be life-changing? I'm going to explain.

I first tasted pizza when I was eight or nine years old. We had gone to visit my Aunt and her family on N. Campbell Ave (near North Ave.) in Chicago.

My Aunt made pizza, and I found the look of it so disgusting, I refused to eat it. As the afternoon wore on, I got hungrier and hungrier, and the pizza looked better and better. Finally, my appetite overruled my aesthetic sense, and I tasted pizza for the first time in my life! I was electrified! I had never tasted anything better! I proceeded to gorge myself on cold pizza, and my life has never been the same!

The only pizza I've ever had that compared to my Aunt's came from Tomasello's (attached to a bowling alley) in Johnsburg, Illinois.

That's how pizza changed my life!

It would be great to hear from anyone who remembers Tomasello's.

Malnati's deep-dish is very good... the thin crust, not so much.

Malnati's isn't very good in general. Extremely overrated pie.

The best pizza I've had is this little hole in the wall place in Utica, Brooklyn NY. Amazing.

Lou Malnati's makes a good pizza; however it depends on the chef... Because of the inconsistency, we don't order with much frequency.

Years ago, I stopped in a family-owned pizzeria while in Manhattan and ordered (mostly out of curiosity) a "Sicilian slice." That was life changing... Authentic pizza pie... Fresh slices of tomatoes, mozzarella, pieces of Italian sausage and the best red sauce ever.

Lou Malanties?!?!? There are plenty of other deep dish pizza places in Chicago that is superior to Lou's...Bacino's blows them out of the warter...imo.

You're as likely to find an Italian running Bacinos as you are finding a Republican in Chicago.

being Italian...that is ok with me. I know a lot of non-Italians that make a kick*ss pizza! Now when it comes to my sauce...that's a different story. :)

It's a matter of preference I suppose. If I want to 'fold' my food I will just have a taco instead

The only food you should fold is a tortilla.. The only reason you have to fold your pizza is so you can shove more food into your fat belly

Chicago style is not Pizza...it's literally a meat and cheese pie. Should not even be discussed in the same category.

"Life Changing"???

Ah... It would take more than a pizza to accomplish that for me. Something on the order of having the Dalai Lama stay with us for a year as a house guest or on that magnitude and scale.
02:26 PM on 10/24/2012
P.S. Dalai Lama likes thin crust.

That photo made me drool on my laptop. The only place I knew to get the Chicago-style, deep-dish, buttercrust pizza closed years ago. I'd love to find another one here in the OC.
01:28 PM on 10/23/2012
I agree with number 1! Though I can't speak to most of the other locations.

What a job! Traveling the country eating pizza! Is Esquire hiring?

I'm willing to bet that Georgio's wasn't even sampled. It trulyl is a hidden gem of Chicago-style deep dish pizza.
