Proof that we are not that much more civilized than the muslims we LOVE to complain about!
02:38 AM on 10/29/2012
Well it proves that SOME of us are not civilized. To this Marine, thank you for your service and sacrifice. To the bully, do yourself a favor and join the Marines and become a real man.

The restaurant management should have asked, ...no, ...FORCED, the loud-mouthed drunk to leave, not the war veteran and his family. This is a sad testament to the thin veneer of civility and common good that barely separates humans from the rest of the primates species.
12:11 AM on 10/29/2012
I don't know why you wouldn't hold the restaurant accountable. They made the choice to allow the one creating the ruckus to stay and asked an innocent group to leave their establishment. Shame on them for not making a stand. In the past, I've had to stand up to customers that tried to bully my other customers. I either asked them to leave or asked them to wait their turn. Period. It isn't that hard.

Common sense is not so common.

The story attempts to make it appear as if a group of people had their heads up their butts and insulted the veteran but it was only one person and he was most likely drunk.

Another case where football is more important than a human life. Some Penn State fans still believe Joe Pa is innocent. In Charlotte a football team is more important than an AMERICAN HERO! I am sad.

Semper Fi Garrett, I too am a disabled vet {dustoff pilot} and do not live very far from Charlotte. I just might get a few of my friends and some Cowboys jerseys and pay a visit to Charlotte.

So sorry my friend you are a hero.
03:43 AM on 10/29/2012
Thanks for your service, and you are a hero to me as well! I really wish I could have passed the physical for the Navy -- I could have been caring for you guys and gals!
09:04 PM on 10/28/2012
People are insensitive to others feelings, they don't care if you fought for their freedom so they can watch football and go to the games, they only care about being immature. I don't care if is a Panthers Bar you dont treat people that way. That's y the world is the way it is now, too much hate and too many people think they run things. Karma is a "B@*&th, so watch out all of you bullies.

Please read my comment fully before criticizing…We are retired military and live next to a very large military post with many wounded warriors. We have zero tolerance for harassment of any type to a wounded warrior based on his injuries (mental or physical). If the story is 100% accurate, which most are not by any means, then the restaurant should have thrown the harassers out and the Marines meal should have been on the house. What I hope is not happening here, is that the harassment was targeted only at the fact that they were in “enemy” territory with the wrong jersey on. Once all the FACTS come out, and witnesses come forward regarding what was actually said, only then will I make my judgment call. I say this because if the taunting was about the jersey and the family being Cowboy fans only, then no harm done. This would have happen to anyone entering that restaurant, and I thought the whole point was for equal treatment, not special treatment. GOD BLESS OUR VETRANS AND THEIR FAMILIES FOR ALL THEY DO!

I agree with you completely, especially your last statement! I thank you for your service, and that of all our Veterans. I'm stuck in a bad situation with it, however. I'm disabled myself, so my housing opportunities are limited by my limited income. (Please don't fall for the thought that all doctors are rich. Some of us weren't in medicine for the money.) Now the complex managers tell me I have to take down my flag for a petty, commercial reason. I put it up in honor of two particular Airmen, a married couple who helped me out in a situation here. In a normal situation, say I was paying my entire rent myself and could afford to risk having to move, I would be on TV in a heartbeat with the info. No one would be able to shut me up! But I can't survive on the streets anymore, especially here in Anchorage. I don't want to take it down, and I've left messages begging them to at least let me keep it up until Veterans Day, as it would be a slap in the face to our Vets, in my opinion. I'm expecting to hear from the corporate office tomorrow. Any suggestions?

Again, thank you for risking your life to protect mine. I tried to enlist, but was turned down because of a past back surgery, so I served in the Indian Health Service. I say "Semper Paratus" (although you probably aren't a Coastie) in your honor.

Is there no where you can turn to for help? You broke my heart with your post. Please dont let yourself become homeless. The couple I am sure knows in their hearts that you thank them from the depth of yours. Put your flag up on your wall if you have to, but please take care of yourself. Blessed Be to you.

I guess you missed the part of the article that said the insulter made a comment about Garret Carnes using his wheelchair as a crutch?
01:57 PM on 10/29/2012
I guess you missed the last century of the media putting their own twist on things. I was not requesting a media statement, more of a police report. I say police report, because I am all for the individuals involved being punished if proper reports are filed and statements sworn in the court of law. Not just facebook and media.

While what happened is inexcusable, You people are just as bad as the harasses at the restaurant. Boycott the restaurant? For what? They set up a Facebook Page? OMG!! Oh, I have a hang nail, think I'll set up a facebook page for all those that can sympathize with my plight can tell me how wonderful I am, hangnails and all. What a bunch of namby pampy's this country has become. Yes, the guys that harassed the vet and the family are so very wrong, but let's stop making every little thing that hurts someone's feelings into a federal case! OMG!

No, YOU try reading my post again. And for those that didn't read it correctly, I have the utmost respect for the veterans of this great country of mine. My point was that the "burn them at the stake mentality" is rampant, and boycotting the restaurant is misguided. Stop watching Jerry Springer!

Also a combat vet, and you statement reflects why many vets never make it in the work force. tI workd with many vets and many of the ones who failed believed, and felt, that the world owes them a living, and they never adapt to the fact that the only thing an employer cares about is, can you, and are you doing the job for which you were hired. . After I retired, I started a facebook page, people who worked with me were amazed to find out I was a Vet.
