This just cannot be: I have been told over and over that the world is 5000 or 6000 years young !

In the 60's and 70's our nation boasted one of the highest college graduation rates in the world with a very high percentage of those graduates in the science and engineering fields of study. The breakthroughs in science over that period and the next 20 years reflected that achievement. However, today our nation lags behind virtually all of the EU, Japan and China, in numbers and percentages on a country by country comparison of students studying science and engineering in our major science universities. Our HS test scores in science place us 29th in the world, Kenya students do better. We are the only industrialized nation otherthan Ireland that over 40% (here 70%) of the population, believes in creationism vs. evolution. People like 'dfuller' are prime examples of the dumbing down of America that can be laid at the door of the right wing radical xtian movement that took over this nation with Reagan and his anti-science mentality in the 80's. We now pay the price, again, for another legacy of Bonzo.

Forget the majors of students. Your system is filled with doctorates who have never had jobs.

Geebus, no wonder your are first in cost and 21 out of 22 in quality.

Just look at some of your PROMINENT doctors.....Condoleeza Rice, Dobson.....

geebus.....what a disaster your system is.

Evolution, the 'scientific theory' for which there is more factual support than there is for the 'scientific theory' of gravity. Yet you still have the Robertsons, Falwells, Sessions, McConnells, Boehners, Can'tors, and other religious nut cases out there pushing their myth based claims for which there is no factual support that would stand up to the rigors of any scientific test. And the worst part is, this nation believes the cr ap and rejects the science.
10:06 AM on 05/20/2009
Is this a joke? This fossil looks nothing like a human being. Many scientists are saying it's very similar to the modern lemur.

The theory that we evolved from lower life forms is bankrupt of evidence and the desperation I see in this article proves it.

Science trumps all else. That said I do believe in God . Sounds like I'm conficted . Well I'm not. I just think the seven days god took to make the world were longer then seven 24 hour periods. Days as we know them were perhaps millions of years. Works for me.

The bible was after all written by people hundreds of years ago. Those people did NOT have the scientific knowledge we do and were not as educated as we are. Just think of the scientific breakthroughs during our lifetimes . Fossils , space exploration, and all the sciences have given us so much information to help us understand things and have made us ask more questions. This is healthy for us.

It's 47 million years old. (That still makes it over 20 million years younger than T-Rex, BTW.)

While most of the world is fighting over the theory of their gods, scientists continue to prove the fact of evolution, which puts the world's superstitions in very dim light.

The god peddling hucksters who have built their careers on scaring and deceiving others, will have to engage in lots of verbal acrobatics to spin this one. Time for all of them to come out of the religious closet and admit the lies they've been living. And get real jobs that REALLY help society.

Yeah, I'll wait a few years for the brutal debunking before accepting this as evidence of transitional species. Most likely, it's a damn chimp with some sort of deforming bone disease. We don't have any problem finding tons of fossils for every other species out there, so redirect my attention when they uncover a fossilized colony of the damn things.
