"They are always black in the sense that it is their birthright, but they can choose to disassociate themselves from a consciousness of themselves as black, at which point other black people disown them. When that cut happens, they are no longer black in the sense that they are connected to a people-hood. They are lone individuals whose lives are predicated solely on white acceptance and approval. They are mis-predicates: white mind, black body."

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So it would seem that when an individual in a multicultural society no longer identifies himself as a separate tribe within that society and seeks to identify with the larger society as a whole he, loses the acceptance of that root tribe and is subsequently ostracized by it. He is then further cast adrift alone for seeking wider acceptance from the larger society in which he resides and labeled as a confusion of social and genetic opposition. His identity is suspect and he cannot lay any claim to his roots. This seems like an excellent way to maintain racial and social purity and a permanent separatist class.
However this is the exact opposite of the professed vision of the current African American Black (self identified) president.

Puzzling stance but II think we are getting somewhere!!

So blacks are not part of the larger society?
05:31 PM on 05/26/2009
So it would seem.
According to the quoted individual there must remain a separation or a "cut" occurs and "blackness" disappears with identity as a "Black person" the are, to use a crude epithet, an Oreo.

the scenario you describe is not entirely unusual. Jooooooooooos have done so for years as has many other ethnic groups inorder to gain "acceptance" just by changing the spelling of their last names.

Obama gets to name his nomination. Without a doubt, I am sure that people have registered great dislike for the long drawn-out fights.

We are not interested in drama.

He has the votes. He made his choice.

Move on. We have real issues to address.

That's not the Constitutional process for putting justices on the Supreme Court. It's not King President, despite Bush's and now Obama's best efforts to expand the executive branch, and 'unitary executive'.

You don't seem to like democracy much, AnnfromCA.

Since the topic seems to focus on race and ethnicity, here is some food for thought!
Sotomayor

"Sangre Judia" ("Jewish Blood") by Pere Bonnin. A list of 3,500 names used by Jews, or assigned to Jews by the Holy Office (la Santo Oficio) of Spain. Los Apellidos estan sacados de las listas de penitenciados por el Santo Oficio, de los censos de las juderias y de otras fuentes que indican claramente que la persona portadora del apellido es judia o judeoconversa. LMAO!

Senator Norm Coleman today released the following statement in response to President Obama's nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the United States Supreme Court.

"When I am re-elected, I intend to review Judge Sotomayor's record using this process. Certainly, the nomination of a Hispanic woman to the nation's highest court is something all American's should applaud."

I care less about what Republicans' want than what I, as a liberal, want in a US Supreme Court justice.

Do you know Sotomayor's record? Obama being for her says nothing, except that if she's like the rest of his positions, what he said and/or implied when he was running for the Office of the President isn't what he's saying and doing inside the office.

Today's Obama, governing right-of-center, picks a Supreme Court candidate who is politically advantageous to him (a hispanic, a woman), and not necessarily the kind of jurist that would be good for us, real Democrats (liberals).

One fact about Sotomayor that's being discounted is that she voted to uphold Bush's ban on money going to organizations that provide abortion or even mention abortion in other countries. The Global Gag rule. Naral is not happy with Sotomayer. That's not a candidate that I can get behind.

I found this and thought it was funny:

Bob Barr, who is part African American, has long denied this fact. He is also alleged to have had a love child with an ob ese constituent while serving as a prosecutor in Georgia who later went on to obtain a certain amount of not-oriety of her own. Rosanne Barr, the slovenly, rotund, disg-usting comic freely admits that, she is not only Bob Barr’s love child, she has also been his mistress on and off for many years.

President Obama is quite the chess player.
If the repubs really fight the nominee, they will alienate the few remaining women and latin's
who are in the party.
If they don't fight it Obama scores an easy win and they all have to go begging
for forgiveness from Limbaugh who has been saying they have to fight this
hard.

Don't worry about Republicans. Worry about yourself.

The DLC and Obama's remaking the Democratic Party into a home-away-from-home party for Republicans.

Conservative Larry Klayman of Judicial Watch just announced that he loves Sotomayor, "She's no liberal; she's a moderate, and Republicans would be ill-advised to object."

Is there anybody except Obama's most ardent admirers (and right-of-center Democrats) who doesn't know that Obama was a stealth candidate, not progressive, right-of-center (DINO) who misled liberals and progressives about his intentions?

Now there will be two reliable right-swing voters on the Supreme Court: Kennedy and Sotomayor.

I think back to when I first really became impressed with the President, back when he was first getting started on the campaign trail. The selection of Supreme Court justices was and always has been of paramount importance to a lot of us for various reasons. President Obama did not let us down today, and I don't foresee him letting us down in the future. My faith in him with this issue has been justified, along with so many others.
