Untrue. Expelling more calories then consumed helps. Also exercise helps mitigate cravings and overeating.

What?! Yes it absolutely does. Every lb of muscle you build burns an extra 50 calories at basal rate. Not to mention cycling, for example, burns around 500 calories an hour.

My partner and I are avid cyclists and I can attest that on our multi-day bike trips, we encounter a heck of a lot of really overweight people. Ken has been biking thousands of miles every summer for years, and still gained 40 pounds he couldn't get rid of until he cut the carbs and went ketogenic. Calories in, calories out is not a valid determinant for human metabolism where hormones such as insulin play a major role in weight loss/maintenance. Read Gary Taubes and Phinney/Volek.
