Tentatively happy about this news. I hope this means we can get some much needed stuff done for our state but we can't abuse this supermajority. It will be nice to not be obstructed by truculent repubs who just want a title without having to work for a change. I think our voters made some good decisions this time around.

Ah yes, the quintessential "needed stuff". The list of such needed stuff (from a liberal perspective) knows no end. But in California, people are willing to pay and pay and pay to get this "needed stuff." What a joy it must be to live there.

Well we must not hate it that much since we vote on what taxes to raise and when.

Oh, we'll abuse the supermajority for sure. It's in the political nature of either party.

If they do things right and well, California could end up setting an example for the rest of the nation. Step lightly and carefully fellow Democrats in the State Assembly and State Senate... what you do now could mean everything to the rest of the people of this country.

The danger here is very real...the Legislature is woefully short of real leaders and the bunch in there might well use the power and exceed their grasp....

olde guy, you're onto something there. The term limits have left a major leadership vacuum in the legislature, which has been filled by the parties, tititularly, and special interests in reality, and to a lesser extent, the bureaucracy.

We've got all kinds of amazingly smart people in the state, but none in the legislature, in my humble opinion. My hope is the legislature realizes their shortcomings and creates various blue ribbon commissions to address our critical problems before taking knee-jerk action.

As usual, California is a harbinger for things to come ... RIP GOP!

I'm sure you said the same thing when Proposition 8 passed just four years ago.

Prop 8 was an aberration, founded upon the tsunami of out of state money purchasing fear ads on television, such as the one featuring the little girl speaking with her mom about the alleged pro-gay classroom environment.

Better cities, roads, universities, infrastructure...sounds good to me..We get what we pay for. The Repubs just became the Whigs....
02:01 AM on 11/08/2012
If that were a true, then California would already have the best roads, the best education system, etc. Sadly. that is not the case. California is proof that higher taxes do not necessarily equate to better anything. But just keep on voting for more taxes. sooner or later you'll figure it out.....or not.

$5 to $10 billion in March I would bet the House on it. No tax has ever brought in the reveunue it projected. Tax receipts were already behind for the year.

Yes, replacing them with democratic obstructionists will surely solve all of the problems, LOL!

Well, maybe not all, but at least we can now go forward (D), and not backwards (R).

AB....They don't get it..never will..but when they see their paychecks dwindle away...maybe they'll realize "FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY"...should have been on the top of this list instead of taxing everyone to death...;-))
