I read the news everyday and just when I think it can't get any stranger, It does. IF I was this kids dad, I'd have to tell that school to go fly a kite.......And that would be putting it nice. I am a defiant kind of guy, tell me I can't do something is the wrong thing to do.

Just curious.
What would the school do if he were to return from summer break sporting a 'stache?

So what? It's not like he wants to bang the teachers for charity, he wants to grow a moustache.

The school administration is crazy...If he has a mustache, let him grow it. He is not faking it.
09:07 AM on 11/17/2012
If a boy grows taller than his classmates, will they tell him to stop growing? He didn't wear a fake mustache, he grew it! How about a girl who develops breasts? What do you tell her? Come on guys. The school looks stupid on this one.

"But the school ordered Gus to remain clean-shaven because very few students had the ability to grow facial hair at all, and most would be excluded from taking part."

Such inspired logic by school officials. I can imagine the trauma the rest of his school chums would suffer. No doubt they would cry themselves to sleep every night. Such sorrow is not to be tollerated!
I smell a severe case of mustache envy and I am across the Atlantic. School officials always fret over the petty things.

Gus, tell your school officials that what they are cultivating under their nose's grows wild on your bum! Then grow your stache, your classmates will support you and so will the public.

Post a before and after set of photos for those of us that can't be there!

Grow some thicker skin. " because very few students had the ability to grow facial hair at all, and most would be excluded from taking part". Anyone want to have kids where policy like this dictates school life because every kid can't participate in it? It's like banning basketball because some kids are too short and discontinuing the honor roll because students who don't care about their grade are jealous of those who work for their grade. Politically correct schools want to be accepting and not hurt the feelings of children who should be hardened to our shared grim reality that you can't fit in everywhere AND YOU CAN'T PLEASE EVERYONE.

Schools have given up teaching or any form of self expression. They're now just conformity factories. You may be different in any permittable category but if your outside of them your in trouble.

I feel like I'm a Republican by touting individuality and self-expression in opposition to lemming creation. Our PC culture is taking a turn for the worst.

Yep, we're meant to protect individuality in some cases, yet forced conformity in others. In addition to the examples you cite, the sporting excellence and academic excellence, add to that the religious and sexual preferences - - we all have to respect individuality there!! Then, a kid can't grow a moustache because others "wouldn't be able to participate"? Alternate universe people!!! Simple solution, let the kids who can't grow fluff wear fake ones....it's fun and they'd get a lot more participation. All this forced PC cr&p is stifling! What are you going to do out of school....demand we all get the same job and make the same pay because it's FAIR? It's getting extreme and it's getting stupid.

I bet becoming hairless and gray colored clothing wearing lemmings would be their goal. A country where extremes don't exist and the moderate is not in moderation.

"But the school ordered Gus to remain clean-shaven because very few students had the ability to grow facial hair at all, and most would be excluded from taking part, his father, Paul Hooker, explained to the Mirror."

And why should he be held responsible for that? Is it his fault that he hit puberty earlier than his peers? This is like telling a large chested girl to bind her breasts because her female classmates aren't as well-endowed and might feel jealous. It's ridiculous. Besides, it's not as though anyone else would be required to participate, and they could always show their support by wearing a fake mustache.

Sometimes schools can be over the top with their arbitrary dress codes, most of which have absolutely no effect on their students or the learning environment. There's setting an appropriate boundary for decorum, and then there's being unreasonably uptight. This is clearly the latter.
