This is really ironic if you look at it in the right perspective. Work with me here good people. First here is a man running a business from a jail/prison, something half the politicians can't run or do from Washington D.C. Secondly he is being held for tax evasion/failure to file income taxes for a couple of years, again something numerous politicians didn't do or just forgot because of their busy schedule. Thirdly he was making money, again something politicians in D.C. can't seem to do either, just spend our money and last but not least he was involved in the porn business and strippers, so I asked you this question is he with the secret service? A politician or a criminal? Wondering if he shouldn't have a federal government job on the other side of the fence....LOL

Too bad he can't use this business savvy to go legitimate........

When did we start providing computers to inmates to work on their defenses...isn't that their lawyers jobs and if necessary what ever happend to note pad and felt pen? And additionally doesn't anyone monitor whats going on in their cells or on their devices? And if he did this for 18 months and he made money I'm sure he didn't pay taxes on that money either...so does that add additional charges to the tax evasion charges he's already doing?

Just doesn't sound like punishment to me...3 squares a day, exercise time, electronic devices/computers ...better than a lot of people have now a days...

I'm gonna send my kids to Prison U. They get, as you said, three square meals a day, TV (and now internet), a gym and a library.

I thought prisons were punishment for people that did CRIMES. Why in the world would they be allowed access to computers? This makes NO sense at all. They need to put the old chaingang system back in operation.

He was in jail not prison. This all happened before he was tried and convicted. It was a jail employee who lied about the court order and enabled him to get access to the computer. He used the computer to help in his defense ( he acted as his own lawyer) and run his business. Most importantly, no illegal activity was found on the computer.

The man was representing himself pro se and his use of the laptop was supposed to be for that purpose, not exactly far fetched. He was in jail, not prison. Not sure what he was doing exactly but if this was an internet website that operated on the premise of drop shipping, he may only have been alerting suppliers that orders needed to be filled (by email). The better question is really what cause existed that he was using the computer for an inappropriate purpose what exactly gave rise to that?

most inmates do not get computer time....this was a one time thing that wasnt suppose to happen...someone got fired for it....jail and prison is no joke it is very hard ...i been in many....they starve you....no smoking....have to live around the worst people on the planet...have to watch your back ALL the time...there inst even wieghts anymore in ga....it is way harder then you think....and if your poor watch out, they can and sometimes do pin a charge on you that you know nothing about...and if you have a record you will plead guilty or risk getting max time with no parole...

Thanks for giving your perspective on prisons...Very interesting.

Ok. If there was any doubt of it till this story--some prisoners have WAY TOO MUCH ACCESS. Why would ANY inmate be allowed a computer (let alone with Internet access AND Cell access???). Sounds like a bunch of heads should roll over this. What were they THINKING? Even if the brother brought the laptop--don't they have searches in that place? Don't they scrutinize what people bring in? Maybe next time they should supply the inmates with heroin, too; or just let the brother bring it? This is beyond insane.
No internet access in Jail.
