> Jim Greer, the former head of the Florida Republican Party, claimed that a law shortening the early voting period was deliberately designed to suppress voting among groups that tend to support Democratic candidates. “It’s done for one reason and one reason only...‘We’ve got to cut down on early voting because early voting is not good for us.’"

It is pretty amazing that this is happening in America, which is considered the cradle of democracy. A large portion of America's foreign policy has been, right or wrong, the spread of democracy, in other parts of the world. I wonder how the rest of the world is viewing this. Voting is one of the most basic rights, to trample all over it, is amazing.
It is heartening to see that it didn't work. Kudos to all those people who stood in lines for hours to have their say. Don't wait for the next elections, go get ID's just in case. Get them for the old, and register to vote. Be a political animal always, not every 4 years. Don't forget to vote in the midterms, it is the best way to protect your rights.

Right, and "Right on!"

But America shouldn't be "considered the cradle of democracy." Athens has a couple millennia priority on the American Republic as a democracy — and, for its small body of citizens, really was a democracy. The phrase is serious, we're a republic, with a "mixed constitution" of which democracy is only one part.

Still, though: right and "Right on!" America has democratic aspirations, and we should live up to them. So do get out and vote, and do resist suppressing the vote.

" A large portion of America's foreign policy has been, right or wrong, the spread of democracy, in other parts of the world. "

To be fair, that's the cover-story the capitalists use while taking advantage of disadvantaged countries around the world. That's a nasty part of our history we need to pay more attention to.

Shouldn't they be arrested for taking away the vote from certain people?

Isn't this against the law?

This is worse than any crime (other than murder or rape or torture); this is a BASIC American right and why most of our ancestors moved to this country.

I do not understand how, in this grand country, that we allow this to happen.

I come from a family that served the Marines, Army, and Airforce . . . They deserve more.

That is part of why I am for a nationally elected attorney general.

And this is surprising to anyone? Well, anyone but the Faux/Limbaugh indoctored sheeple who believe the "rampant voter fraud" claims or that Acorn "stole" the 2008 election. They can just cover for themselves by screaming "Benghazi" again

Sick of these two cry babies... McCain still dont understand he lost to Obama twice.... get over it and move on.... He wants to concoct somekind of a "special" investigation into the Benhazi situation so he wont have to take up as head of new committee for Indian Affairs.. somehow this is the only committee open to him....

Hang on John, maybe you can create enough of a stir that will get you some attention....

Someone's getting down on bended knee and begging the Republicans to kick him out of the party for not being a good little German.

Unfortunately in the last election for Governor, we had two crooks running. Even more unfortunate is the biggest crook won. I am praying that the people who voted for Rick Scott learned their lesson and he will be a memory in 2014.

The Republican Party, the strategists, the consultants, they firmly believe that early voting is bad for Republican Party candidates,” Greer told the Post. “It’s done for one reason and one reason only...‘We’ve got to cut down on early voting because early voting is not good for us.’"

Come on Justice Department. Hand this guy a supeona and let him testify under oath. This sounds as though it's in violation of the voting rights act.

We can thank the Florida GOP for creating such obvious attempts at voter suppression that it angered the voters enough to hang in there and vote anyway. Thanks, Gov Scott! I thank you along with all of the President's supporters.
