Based upon their unenviable record, the Republicans would deny unemployment benefits to destitute, idle Americans.  "That will force them to find a job."  The Democrats apparently support welfare forever unless and until the private economy recovers. The evidence that this economy is dysfunctional and corrupt has never passed their minds.  Without government deficit spending, the  Read More...

Rep. Dave Camp (R-Mich.), the leader of the House committee that oversees unemployment insurance, said Congress should "carefully consider" whether another year of assistance for the unemployed is worth the money.

American lives are worth it Mr. Camp. Cut from Defense or your corporate welfare. LEAVE LIVING AND BREATHING AMERICANS ALONE.

I just left him a message, you can too!

The cost of extended unemployment benefits could be offset by docking congressional pay for every weekday they are not in session, except for 2 weeks paid vacation.
07:57 PM on 11/27/2012
Or as long as Speaker Boehner, the republican politicians and the "job creators" continue to FAIL at creating all those jobs they promised the American people in 2010.

Add them together plus a couple more, and we're at the $26B that Sessions claims.

Democrats don't mind high unemployment as long as they can provide cash to those people without jobs.

When unemployed people run out of cash benefits, those people will either want jobs or permanent extension of benefits.

Democrat policies won't produce jobs, so Democrats keep pushing benefit extensions to keep the masses passive.

The republicans aren't interested in jobs creation and they aren't interested in extending unemployment compensation.

So while republicans complain about people being paid for doing nothing, they in fact, are the ones guilty of that charge by collecting a paycheck and doing no work.

What's most disgusting is that congress waits until the last second - generally the Christmas holiday - to kick this political football around every time.

There are real people with real lives and real needs on the receiving end. Whether they extend it or not, there is no reason to wait until the last second to make whatever decision they make.

They did it before to force the president to give in to the top 2%. the bills they need to pass are about 4 to 6 of the job bills.

This year is different. The GOP thought Obama was going to lose, so they made all these deals to come to expiration at the end of thise year, so President Romney could work his will. Now they've got themselves over a barrel with President Obama holding the pickle. If they don't want to start playing nice, it will be the GOP that suffers much more than anyone else.

Maybe, but it just looks like last year again when they overplayed their hand.  They could have voted on this and a lot of things any time before their last two recesses.  The veteran's job bill, the violence against women, and numerous other bills are just sitting because the repubs were recalcitrant.  Yeah, they did expect Romney to win, but since he didn't you would think they would want to move on the things - like unemployment - that made them look like fools in the past.

Unfortunately a lot of " those overseas countries " of which you speak are just like a proverbial Hornets nest. We pay, "American tax dollars" to the local bee keepers to keep the hornets in their nests. Their are consequences which must be thought about before you stop paying those bee keepers. It may just be cheaper to continue to pay these people rather than dealing with the bees being let out of their nest uncontrolled. Think about it for a few.

To bring back employment import tariffs have to be enacted.Once corporations lose their Free Trade con job on us all, small business will be back in action.Free Trade =unemployment.Free Trade=child labour.Free Trade=service decline.Free Trade=bankrupt countries.Free Trade=Monopolization.End Free Trade and End the Fed.Also return the IRS to the US Government.

Bighead1883 - I agree with you but I don't believe that either side will do this. We know that the republicans will no do it and the dems are giving lip service to the issue.

Right now 650,000 foreign IT workers are in our country and yet American IT workers are looking for work. The H1B visa program was supposed to supplement the supply of IT workers when demand exceeded supply.

The big lie told by Gates and those of his ilk was to claim a shortage to bring in foreign IT workers. This began to escalate in the 90s and has crush the industry.

This situation can easily be fixed by limiting the H1B visa numbers to under 10,000 AND eliminating the corporate tax deduction for those workers.

"Rep. Dave Camp (R-Mich.), the leader of the House committee that oversees unemployment insurance, said Congress should "carefully consider" whether another year of assistance for the unemployed is worth the money."

Ah, yes, Dave "Scrooge" Camp.

Seriously, watching the post-election behavior and policy positions and proposals of Republicans makes me honestly believe these people are not entirely mentally stable. They are behaving like people I would not want to left alone with in a room. Their behavior is becoming alarming - as if they are disconnected from reality.

Unemployment benefits are helpful, but what would really be more helpful would be for BOTH sides of the aisle to get a heck of a lot more serious about JOB CREATION.

JOB CREATION JOB CREATION JOB CREATION--where are the discussions about job creation? We have had 12 years and barely a mention of the word--much less a discussion.

Frankly I don't think it will happen unless the people start creating jobs at a local level themselves. I have created a process that describes how people can form small groups locally and create employee owned locally held companies that will anchor their local economies and thus create a network of stability all over the USA.

It's free for the downloading--the rest: the heart, the work, the energy, the ideas are up to you.
