I'm so sick of hearing about judges who make decisions like this. Are judges even necessary these days?

Ask one and find out.

They believe they're necessary, but when I read things like this, I wonder if they even use their brains to make decisions.

Once again a Mother's plea goes unheeded. Sometimes I think some judges do that because of a deep hatred for women, and now a little boy is gone forever. Someone needs to look into this judges record because it sounded to me like she had given a good enough excuse, especially if his visits were supervised in the begining. It's too late for this child but God forbid this judge gets to rule in anymore cases like this before being checked out. Heck he could be like the judge that beat his own child and just doesn't care about kids.

Does anyone know the name of this judge? I think I want to write him a letter.

Judge Michael J. Algeo is his name

The judge needs to be removed . . . she has the blood of this child on her hands. I hope she never sleeps again . . . she ignored the information she was given. She "knew better" and could see through the smoke . . . yeah . . . she must have been smoking. Now this child is dead.

If you read the phrase "see thru the smoke", then you also must have read that the judge was A MAN!

What difference does it make if the judge was a man or a woman? It was a bad call, no matter who made it..

i hope that judge doesnt have a peaceful moment in his life again.

ridiculous thoughts. you may be able to get away with such a stunt in north korea. but never in the USA no one can make people stop having kids no matter how little education the couple has had or how mean the couple are .... no one can say hey you two stop having sex. we dont need more of you in this world. never gonna happen never. one thing i did learn in my nursing school days is male MR's are always sterile.so in other words none of the fathers of these dead little kids are or were a MR.even first cousins are allowed to marry in some states. many second and third cousins are already married what kind of kids do thye produce? thye may produce kids whose tempers are like a quick flash... better be careful you bed down with.

In addition, it seems we need to do something different when it comes to judges.

Once again the (in)justice system fails to protect an innocent child. It seems that there were numerous people who knew that this man was dangerous. When will families, friends and acquaintances learn that they need to do whatever possible to prevent these extremely flawed people from harming others. And the judge needs to be severely punished for allowing this to happen.

What? Sounds to me like they tried their d*mnest to get this guy behind bars before this occurred. So when will people like you stop placing blame on people where it doesn't belong?

the judge said the suspicions about the deaths of Collins and Mason were no concern to him, describing it as "smoke that's been blown that I can see through."

time for new glasses, your honor

I cannot read anymore, it's broken my heart. Sweet child never got to smell the roses. Live.

The judge who ordered unsupervised visitation without considering what the mom was concerned about is just as guilty as the father who killed this baby. Shameful waste of a precious little life.

Judges face re-election campaigns, get a children's advocacy group to run pictures of this precious angel in a tv commercial with the words of the judge. Can judges be sued for malpractice?

Not all judges are elected...In my state, a "Court Commissioner" who is an attorney working part time, can decide child custody cases.
11:16 PM on 12/03/2012
The judge in this case was elected.

How unbelievably tragic. Having been tangentially involved with the foster care system in Michigan, I can tell you the top (and often only) priority is to get children off the rolls and back with their parents, whether or not that is in the best interests of their safety. I know personally of a case where a mother repeatedly left her very young children alone, neighbors found them wandering in the street with her nowhere to be found, the house they lived in was the epitome of filth (the youngest child was found in a crib half-occupied by filthy diapers) and it took MONTHS and repeated allowances of "time to fix things" before the children were eventually pulled. Caseworkers would view the situation and then order them to clean up.. they would.. and a month later things would be right back where they started. Parents have rights, this is very true, but there is a vast and gaping hole in the oversight of children by the court system. If more than one person testifies that there is a problem, at the VERY least visits should be supervised. My heart goes out to this mother.. she and her son were both failed by a very flawed system.
08:57 PM on 12/03/2012
Very flawed system is right!! Child Protection is a joke. Just an excuse to give people, who don't give a dam, a job.. It doesn't do any good to let them know. If a parent gets a lawyer, they can claim, that their civil rights are infringed on, and child protection just disappears...

Looking at the picture of this precious child just makes my heart hurt. When are adults who are parents going to start putting the needs of their children first? This is a theme in a case not only like this, but again and again in divorces, and in intact families with mothers and fathers who shouldn't be. Once a person becomes a parent, the child has to come first. Period. Until they(the child) are of majority. It terrifies me that this man can have more children. And then what? RIP, our little Prince.
