Dont social workers check up after adoptions are finalized? How could this man go for quite a few years unchecked. :(

Sounded like he went through a private adoption agency in another state, to me.

No, they don't. Once you adopt, that is legally your child....they run background checks and do the best they can. No one is clairvoyant....

I asked my in the early 1950´s what were the worst crimes and he said; murder, rape and kidnapping..
Yes, they all should be considered capital offenses period!

Make sure someone melts the key when this monster is thrown in the slammer!!

How will these poor kids ever forget It´s such a terrible thing.

Unfortunately, this is not an isolated story. My friend and her siblings were adopted by a family where the husband (a pastor with his own congregation) raped one of the adopted sisters for many years until he was found out and sent to jail for a mere 10 year sentence. Even after the adoption is completed, we need some sort of monitoring to make sure that the children are placed in a healthy environment.

and who should pay for it, CPS resources are stretched to the limits. as someone who is beginning the process and home visits are very expensive $500.00 each time a social worker comes out. I have to pay this out of my pocket. I get that more needs to be done but you are asking for a new burden to be placed on responsible parents and a system that is overwhelmed already. It's easy to say do more home visits. But again who will pay. If after 6 visits, the minimum in our state, the social worker doesn't have a good idea of the home life then that is where the flaw is. More training needs to happen on the front line (with the social workers) to see these problems. Many times these monsters don't begin to exhibit this behavior until they have already adopted. There are no home visits after the adoption is over, by law that is your kid, and no longer the states responsibility.

Where do you live cjsimpson? I've been a foster parent for 14 years and I didn't have to pay for home visits; You need to look into that because that doesn't seem right.

I understand your frustration but my friend and her siblings were all adopted to fulfill this mad man's fantasy. They were traumatized by the experience. And yes things starting to happen a year after the adoption.

Is the adoption agency responsible for their careless way of monitoring these kids at all?

Sickening. Some people are less than human.

I never understood why capital punishment is preserved only for murderers. There are many ways to ruin someone's life, and this is worse than anything...especially for those little orphans.

So much for background checks! .... and these poor children have to suffer!!!

OMG - I'm heartsick for those poor children, having to endure that. The adoptive father is absolutely disgusting. Parents are supposed to protect their children, not subject them to those types of horrors. He deserves to be in jail until he dies.

This is SO messed up.. May the children who were ages 9 to 12 years old and exposed to this horrible nightmare find perfect help and a family or families who are willing to help them become the children they are supposed to be.

If the world was to really end this week...would probably not be much of a loss at this point. There are many amazing people in this world but the degree of evil out there overshadows.

I hope these children get the help that they are surely going to need... years of therapy, not just a couple of months. Unfortunately, they may need to be safeguarded forever, their minds may never completely heal and these types of cases seem to repeat themselves.... the abused become the abusers... definitely not all, but too many to ignore that fact.
