Do countries celebrate the new year twice? Once for themselves and once for the USA?

The "spectacular" at in Times Square was at one time on my "Bucket List" [sorry, defunct word in 2013].  The Times Square Ball comes with a past rich in history, extraordinary symbolism AND, most recently, a crystal etched with Dick Clark's name.

And yet, it has become a real disappointment to see the Times Square Ball start it's descent--look closely, before it drops into the obscurity of flashing signs and LED advertising shorty before it drops out of sight, then once again only to light up the Toshiba Time Clock!!

Here's a plan!!  How about putting a computer generated circle around the ball??  Or, would that be a bit much??  ;o)

My celebration didn't go so well. Leaned over for a midnight kiss at the checkout counter and, well, let's just say my hearing starts next Thursday.

What has happened to the quality of images today? All of these pictures look amateurish. This is because of digital. Digital shooters just snap off thousands of images and edit later. There is no feeling involved. It's all quick and dirty. When photographers used film they had less shots available and put more into each frame shot. Welcome to the age of the quick digital snapshot. Now there are zillions of mediocre shots because photographers are just firing off mundane shots because they can shoot thousands and hope they get one right. Again the robotization of people using technology

You're so wrong on so many levels. Not everyone with a digicam accepts junk as pictures.

Happy New Year World.
01:27 PM on 01/01/2013
Please define "WORLD" and quantify how many out of the 700 BILLION people who comprise the world population celebrated so enthusiastically the advent of a year that brings nothing more than more misery, wars, diseases, poverty, violence, oppression, repression. For example, I'd be very interested to know how many in Syria celebrated. Or in Gaza. Or Yemen. Congo for that matter. The number of self-entitled boozers and pot-heads that took to the streets in Manhattan do not the population of the world represent.

7 billion. Not 700 billion. And apparently you didn't bother to look, since they included Brazil, Egypt, Scotland, England, Australia, etc., etc. in the slideshow.

Also, a lot of those "self-entitled boozers and pot-heads" in Manhattan are the working poor who came in from the surrounding area and just wanted to have a nice night ringing in the New Year.

When the biggest "news" of the New Year's eve is an ongoing "romance" between Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffith, it is time to switch the hemisphere. This one is brain-dead.

On the other hand, peace is required for it to be noted that whatever those two might be doing is in any wise newsworthy
