If the repubs keep this up, there will be much fewer of them. And a few more times could be worth it to get rid of them.
07:34 AM on 01/01/2013
Sure, and have Democrats. Yes, the Democrats who deregulated the banks, support amnesty for illegals, support free trade, support work visas, support student visas, support all the wars, support endless corporate welfare, support normalized trade with slave labor communist China...yeah...that party. How are they different?

There isn't much of a difference anymore. However there is still a small difference. One is going to scr*w us and the other is going to scr*w us with a cond*m.

I agree. The repubs are worthless like teats on bore hog. And they have become down-right scary, like a cheap chessy B Horror movie.

The debt is so high and recovery so slow that economists believe there will be fifteen years of 'fiscal cliff' negotiations before they get the economy under control.

Pnly if the repubs continue to keep a majority in the House.

LOL, not as long as enough people keep thinking the two parties are different.

Lift the cap on Social Security

Naomi Klein described this as Disaster Capitalism in her book The Shock Doctrine.
GOPs learned the lesson well.

Its working great for the rich. Obama wants more work visas, more student visas, more free trade deals, and amnesty for illegals...because SOMEHOW that will all create jobs and raise wages...not.

I agree with almost everything here except that social security is in fact an entitlement.
If you went to the bank for 401K distributions and they didn't want to explain to you that the bank loaned all your money to someone else who used it to buy guns and that person never gave it back, you'd fire them. When the government and the defense department do it, it's an "entitlement."

I can't tell if this is a joke, but I was using the metaphor to refer to the military borrowing money from SSI to pay for wars.

Or just explain why my labor is taxed at all. Why do we tax labor but promote "free trade" which is really just a tax cut on job killing imports?
02:27 AM on 01/01/2013
I have to disagree with the TLA. This should be called is GBAS (Government By Artificial Shocks). The fiscal cliff was a game of Chicken gone bad. In that both sides got smashed into each other and since both parties lack visions and cojones. More importantly none of the people involved in the negotiations have any long term vision for the country. The only institutions being empowered by this deadlock are the Corporations that created the financial bubbles.

You spend the entire first part of the article bemoaning the lack of fiscal responsibility and saying our government acts like children. And in the last part blame the tea party? Get a grip!
07:38 AM on 01/01/2013
Well, otherwise he would have to admit that the Democrats and Republicans are one in the same.

The Tea Party was formed because of aggravation with Bush and congress over the Tarp and other bailouts. They are new blood in Washington and make up a very small percentage of total elected officials. And they actually want to try and fix what's broken in Washington. I'm in no way saying they are always right but at least they are trying. As for the rest you're absolutely right because there is very little difference. For political theater they take opposing views. But the result is always the same spend, spend, spend!

If government operates only in crisis mode, the American people will (and many have already) disregard their antics. Congress is a mess and we pay them good money and perks to represent us. It's very sad that it has come to this.

"The New Normal" is one of the most overused phrases of 2012. (That and "Fiscal Cliff.")

Both need to be retired in 2013.

I agree.
It's a game of chicken.
The Republican/TEA Party wants to bankrupt government. Their goal is to strangle all government, state & federal.
If they win, bye-bye Social Security, bye-bye Medicare. Bye-bye all Regulations on health, safety & the environment.
(BTW, the TEA Party is funded by the KOCH brothers, Wall Street, and Predatory multinational corporations.)
Oops?

Cliff jumping? Can we get all the republicans to jump? Maybe if we told then the drugster and hannity jumped? What if we told them if they jump there'd be 74 CEO positions waiting for them? It's worth a try.
