And, who makes the money from selling them these U.S weapons? Take this as a homework.

When I first saw this story break 3 days ago, I looked up Mali. I remember Mitt Romney kept bringing it up in one of his harrangues when candidate for president.....I wondered then what made him bring up this small, landlocked country in West Africa. They have Uranium and gold.
I smell another world war, as always, it is about profit for the few at the cost of the many. Do we never learn?

Ain al-Amena is very close to the Libyan border and far from Mali. The Algerian Foreign Minister has been quoted by 'Le Monde' and Reuters as saying that the terrorists entered Algeria from Libya.

That wouldn't have been possible if Libya had a unified, functioning secular government...which it did have until western imperialism decided to change that picture.

That would still be very much possible. Please take a look at a map. These countries are huge, and extremely sparsely populated, with the population being concentrated on the coast. The few Libyans can't patrol all of their borders all the time. It's desert country, very hard to move around anyway.

I'd have thought from my comment that readers would deduce that I had looked at a map.

"...if Libya had a unified, functioning secular government...which it did have..."

How many generations back was that?

'Cause you can't be talking about the recent rule of the crazy colonel.

Qaddhafi's "Green Book", which explains his political philosophy, can easily be found on the web. If you find even one mention of religion or Islam in that text it would be news to me. He was 100% a secularist, before "We came, we saw, he died (cackle!)" ended that.

The "Green Book's" segment about female equality you should find to be quite eye-opening. Qaddhafi was ahead of US law in that respect when the book was written in the mid-1970s.

Obviously, the U.S. had knowledge of the operation beforehand. That's the reason why we had a drone watching things unfold. Did we not alert the rest of our allies? What is going on?

Good point, Mick. Just because we have resources available to save American lives doen't mean Obama will opt to use them. Maybe he was working on another prisoner swap. As with everything Obama, how do you know?

Our drone was overhead to witness this debacle. Why do we have to be part of every single conflict in the world? Sickening.

They needed intel, what's so wrong with intel drones? While I understand the hoopla concerning bombing drones, intel drones sound completely legitimate. And yes, if they are going to try to save American citizens it is nice that America could give a helping hand in the matter
