Good! Lock him up. These religious hucksters need to realize that their "religious" beliefs do not supersede the Laws of the Land. If you want to practice your witchcraft in a country that allows you to do so, then you need to abide by that country's laws.

Lock them all up I say but unfortunately the Constitution says differently.....

Why didnt he flee the country with her? Its not the best country to live but it beats jail.

Kenneth Miller-pastor- kidnapper of lesbian 's child--believes in his law--jailed for 3 years. He was played by lasbian women. Now, his life style may change. Hope he has his bible as a protector from the demons.

Only 3 years??? Why not imprison him until the girl returns? Works for me.

I think if Ken doesn't start talking he just might expect to be doing a lot more time for contempt and obstruction of justice.

It will be most interesting to see what a week in jail does for theology and disposition; and where things go from there.

He wouldn't be the first reluctant grand jury witness to be locked up until they decided to talk or the Court came up with a more appropriate alternative.

To begin with, in my opinion, I think he should be locked up until he starts serving his time on the kidnapping charge and if he ever gets out of that detention he should be locked up again until he talks; if he hasn't by then and the investigation remains open. TIme on the obstruction charges, if filed, could also be added at the end of his kidnapping sentence.

Right, because we really should spend $50K yearly for jailing a guy who is no danger to anybody.

I'm glad VA is really progressive on this. Recently we had the case of that one state going after a guy for child support when he was simply a sperm donor - and it's all because the state doesn't like homosexual pairings. It's very good to see Virginia demanding that this woman be allowed to see the child she was helping to raise, and that they are willing to go to any length to punish those that helped take the child away.

Divine are prosecuted. Know your rights & laws as a citizen. I've learned not to suffer my spirit for the things of the flesh. Be a law biding citizen.

Why? Because he demands the clergy to obey the laws of the land like the rest of us?

"The pastor apologized to the court on Thursday and said his "religious beliefs" prevented him from testifying, "

it wasn't his religious beliefs...it was his hatred of homosexuality...
another christian who thinks their hatred is justified...

i'm glad he's in jail.

On what do you base that he was hating anyone?

Miler and Miller went about this the wrong way. It is not often you can be in contempt of a court ruling and get away with it w/o consequences! I don't understand why Ms. Miller agreed to shared custody/visitation rights when her and Jenkins divorced. Ms. jenkins may have changed post divorce. Alot more to learn regarding this mess!

If he can kidnap a child over his own religion's bigotry, he can own up to it in court.

Guess he just did.

What does that mean? It's Godly to conspire to abduct a child overseas because your religion hates one of her mothers?
09:55 PM on 01/24/2013
His religious believes allowed him to kidnap a kid from her mother but is not allowed to testify?? ONLY IN AMERICAN THIS CAN HAPPEN!
10:30 PM on 01/24/2013
Try reading for once. He helped the CHILD and her MOTHER escape.
10:38 PM on 01/24/2013
We are aware of this. We still say he was very wrong. more-so given he refuses to testify. Although that is kinda like saying you are arrested for arson and jaywalking given the relative seriousness of kidnapping vs. refusing to testify.

Basically the girl was born while they were a couple, and is considered the daughter of both women. Custody rights were agreed upon. She should have honored them, and fleeing (or helping her flee) is wrong. The other woman obviously considered the child her daughter, and I would bet the kid thought of her as her other mom as well. As such what justification could there possibly be for kidnapping her (and it is kidnapping given the custody agreement).

He helped them break the law by defying the judge's order. He should go to jail. If this is an act of civil disobedience, he should be willing to go to jail. But he should also tell who else was involved in this crime.

He did not kidnap anyone get it right.Quit trying to make him out to be something he isnt.He was asked to help mother and he did.Mind you the woman who has the girl is HER MOTHER not the lady she played house with for 2 years!! The lady she played house with has no relation to the child what so ever you can say all kinds of crp bout adopted children bla bla bla bla its simply not the same.Im sure i will get slamed for my comment but guess what I could care less!! Truth hurts!!

The truth is, under the law, that Janet Jenkins is a parent of the child as much as Lisa Miller is. The child was born during the marriage and, by law, the child born of the marriage is presumed to be the child of both parties to the marriage.

That issue, as I recall, was never in dispute except in the eyes of those wishing to put a theological spin on the situation instead of a legal one.

Lisa Miller decided she didn't want to accept the legal consequences of her actions and so decided to kidnap Janet Jenkins' daughter, with the help of assorted Mennonites and Lynchburg Baptists; the full extent of the conspiracy is unlikely to ever be known.
