Why shouldn't these people be charged fees? There is enormous overhead in dealing with the unemployed. They are unemployed - not invalids.

Any interest rate over 8% is usury!

They should join a credit union. Fees are lower.

Why should they pay a fee to access their benefits?

All the states did was transfer the overhead from the state to the beneficiaries - and to benefit the banks...

Illinois and several other states also use this for child support disbursements.

When I applied for unemployment, no one explained the card system to me but I read about the card and how it worked, so while applying for unemployment in Nevada I indicated on my paperwork that I wanted direct deposit. I just showed my card to the teller when I wanted to withdraw and hung on to the receipt so that I could track my balance.

Indiana will allow you to transfer funds weekly via the telephone at no cost but they don't advertise it. No Direct Deposit though. Punch the wrong button on the phone menu and get dinged for a $0.49 charge too if you are not careful.

Here I couldn't to the phone transfer 'cause I guess that would have been too much like right.

I meant to say that the direct deposit was into an "unemployment" acct. not checking. But being able to do the phone is great!

If you're going to steal from people, steal from the powerless victims. Bernie Madoff found out what happens when you steal from rich people, you go to jail and the rich people get their money back.

But if you steal from the poor and middle-class in America, you can partner with the government and the media to pretend it was all their fault, and you were actually the victim. Heck, you might even get a taxpayer bailout after your Ponzi scheme falls apart.

Of course I do, the do not keep lobbyists on their pay rolls for nothing and they never miss an opportunity to make money off the American people. Anytime a bank is making money on a fee it is not by accident.
11:21 AM on 01/29/2013
After everything you have seen the banks do to lobby and control our government, why would you not think this was the case? Banks didn't just wait for government to call them up and ask about this, they pursued our government to find another revenue generating program to make a profit. Not to mention other fees that may go into these accounts because the balance is too low.

And they are about to make about 30 million illegals legal....
Our government is hurting you who are unemployed.
Never forget that.

So Tuo11, when are you going out to the farm land to apply for work and will you be working during the summer and during harvest season?? What about any of your friends and family will they be applying at the same time you do?

This is the most ridiculous piece of BS that I've read. To force people to put it on a pre-paid card and incur additional fees to use said card, good way to gauge the unemployed who make so much money already right?
