Hemp has been in continuous cultivation for over ten thousand years--longer than sheep, camels and horses have been domesticated.  It is remarkably useful.   It does not require that farmers invest many billions of dollars each year in Monsanto, Funk, Dow or Cargill seed corn or fertilizer.  It is resistant to drought and disease.

As Paul has demonstrated, it can be used to make  Read More...

Why is it that anything Rand says sounds bad?
07:37 PM on 02/11/2013
Because going along with your idea of the left-right paradigm is easier than admitting someone on the 'other side' is actually standing up for their principles.

You've been successfully programmed to have a bias against anything he says.

Was his TERRORISTIC SON stoned drunk when he TERRORIZED an airline flight?

Could you just clarify for us, whether you are trying to attack a politician via their teenage child, or whether you know them personally as a TERRORIST ?

Rand is just like every other politician they use drugs and hes already been outed since college so no lose for him. The cops in Kentucky on the other hand are right, it will complicate their ability to jail people who do no harm.

Are you seriously that stupid? So people who smoke weed harm others?

Usually someone makes the broken clock reference much sooner after HuffPo posts about him standing up for a common sense issue. And he sure does seem to be right a lot...

So you believe Industrial Hemp should remain ILLEGAL? Am I understanding you correctly? Because I certainly think the US and LEO's are completely ignorant on the subject.

If you study history you'll see that the real target of marijuana prohibition was in fact the industrial hemp industry. DuPont and some of his robber baron comrades owned the patent for wood pulp paper. Hemp based paper and the process to create it was far superior in quality, efficiency and renewabliity (though no one cared as much about that at the time). So, they did what any self-respecting American robber baron would do when faced with a superior opponent... they cheated! They jerked the leash on their indentured legislators and used their propaganda machine to have all members of the hemp family prohibited.
05:38 PM on 02/11/2013
DuPont and William Randolph Hearst, who didn't want the competition to his paper company. Hemp was even legal tender in the U.S. for 200 years - you could pay your taxes with it!

And in our current day, the Drug War Complex and Big Pharma are keeping the lid on the steaming pot of growing dissent over this ridiculous prohibition of cannabis cultivation.

Can anyone commenting at the Huffington Post site do so without having to make some kind of biting insult? No wonder our society is as polarized as it is, no one knowing how to engage in an adult-level conversation. Everything has to be at the level of the dialogue on the TV show "Glee".

Legalizing hemp and marijuana is exactly the economic boost that the US needs right now.

Randy Paul. A little man with big ideas. Impressive statement for a fake libertarian.

Agreed. Libertarians want to legalize all drugs, not p###y foot around with legalizing hemp, for crying out loud. What a trailblazer indeed.
