There are wealthy donors who don't want to be identified. Good. That would make it less likely that they would donate.

David;
I salute your service to bring about sanity in our government. I believe your idea for campaign
contributions cannot work in the land of dollars, fairness and honesty is not in America's DNA.

This could work, but only with vigorous policing and prosecution for violators.

Well just about anything could work that way. Problem is, we citizens can never seem to get that (the powerful being held accountable) these days.

The assumption is that wealthy donors would prefer to give directly to campaigns but are forced to give elsewhere because of the limits. I don't think that is true. Publicly financed campaigns is the best route to get the large amounts of cash out of politics.

Perhaps. I'm wary.

Yeah right.

Giving a Govt run by ELECTED people the authority to tax people to get money to run for elected office will surely get the cash out of politics.

Don't necessarily have to do it via a tax, at least not a dedicated tax. Take it out of general revenue. Better yet, take it out of the defense budget. It IS a national security issue, after all.

How about publicly funded elections. Candidates & elected officials spend too much time fundraising.
06:26 PM on 02/20/2013
Obama is still fund raising even after the election.
He has been on a permanant campaign mode.

Make all election campaign publicly-financed ones. If elected officials are to be responsible to citizens (and corporations and unions are NOT citizens), then citizens should foot the bill for elections.

Axelrod is one smart guy. He realizes the only way to get ultimate REAL reform of campaign finance is to open the flood gates but with full disclosure. Once the majority of voters realize and can see where money is coming from, only then will they support changing the current corrupt system that enriches consultants and attorneys who game the system. Let's be pragmatic about such a hot button issue.

So, corporations are indivuduals? Therefore limit them and their Pacs to what a single individual can contribute. I believe that amount is currently $1,000.00.
05:56 PM on 02/20/2013
The guy who oversaw the most most expensive campaign in history wants to remove limits? You don't say...

If they do that, will Senator Menendez have to claim his underage prostitut.es as a campaign contribution from an individual donor?
06:29 PM on 02/20/2013
They can say the pimp donated the underaged pros. from D.R. free of charge?
05:36 PM on 02/20/2013
I agree. There should be no limit on what you can spend. However, all contributions should be transparent, who and how much.

If there is no limit on individual contributions, there should be matching contributions from Public Finance funding to the opposition for each contribution over $25.00 per person.....

There should be ZERO contributions from ANY entity that does not BREATH and PAY taxes in the USA and qualify as US citizens.
