This is not a throw-away issue. We need to stand up to the tiny numbers of rodents who act as obstructionists and propagandists, and start reversing the damage of the previous administration. Rev. Bookburn - Radio Volta

FEAR does not get bills signed.....and it's a very bad sign that they are not even willing to introduce their bill. It's dead.

Why the delay? Because this Congress and this country have become dysfunctional. What is left of the Reptilian Party is now peopled by quasi-militia Christian Supremacists or corrupt industry shills. The Democratic Party is overrun by DINOs and corrupt, spineless moderates. The media have morphed from a free press into corporate tool, overtaken by monopolies interested in either the status quo or the sensationalism of Dick Cheney and Octomom. The electorate is either too dumbed down to understand what's at stake, or too discouraged to pay attention.

Given this state of affairs, Kerry and Boxer read the tea leaves and decided this wasn't exactly the optimal moment to have a debate that won't devolve into charges of nazisocialismcommunism. It's a shame they have to wait, and I don't think the situation will improve in a few months.
08:23 PM on 08/31/2009
Chernynkaya, give the Democrats a spine. You're making calls, writing postcards, sending Emails about say...Public Option? Good. Keep it up. This is the ammo our Reps need to get the job done.

The same focus is going to be needed for Climate Change in the fall. To me, this is almost a non-story. Opponents of both Health Care Reform and Climate Change aren't going to get tired, and neither should we.

This so called "Climate Change" bill is the biggest farce in the world. It's nothing more than a giant energy tax that will be passed on to the consumer and it won't have ANY effect on the climate, but it will cost millions of jobs.

Gas and electric prices will "skyrocket". Obama said so himself:

http://www.marklevinshow.com/goout.asp?u=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HlTxGHn4sH4

Meanwhile, it's getting colder.

http://www.mcclatchydc.com/226/story/74019.html

I'm sure everyone will be happy when they have to pay higher electricity and natural gas rates to keep warm during the winter.
07:28 PM on 08/31/2009
Why will it cost jobs when it supports a whole new industry without doing any damage to existing industries -- except maybe coal mining.
08:34 PM on 08/31/2009
Maybe because the new technology is being built in China?

Here we go again. The fact that humans are influencing climate change is not even under debate at this point, except for folks who try and play the "it's not global warming because it's cold this year" card. We're talking about disruption of natural climate, radical, even catastrophic temperature and weather changes up and down.

Blaming this on Kennedy Funeral for delay is ludicrous!

What is the current SENATE good for? NOTHING?

Lets lock the doors, take away the keys, and the paychecks until Senators listen to the People of the United States instead of Corporatists who fund their campaigns!

America wants what 0BAMA promised in Health Care, Green Energy, and support of Main Street!

Shut them DOWN until they beg to deliver on those promises!

I can hardly believe that a bill so detrimental to American liberty, and so blatantly Unconstitutional, is being delayed at all by our incompetent, stupid, and corrupt government. I thought they rubber stamped every roll-back of freedom as a matter of course.

Dude cap and trade is a way to transferr money to coal companys and keep them from going under like U.S. Steel Industry did .

It is a Security issue after all. When Solar and Wind really hit the Coal Industry could collaspe and with it millions of jobs. It is only a Tranfer of 3% of the profits from gas and oil to keep the coal industry afloat . We need a coal industry to build ships and make steel if war ever comes big time to our shores.
06:34 PM on 08/31/2009
This is a very sensible decision.

Opening up a second front on climate change before the Battle of Health Care Reform is won was a major strategic error on the part of the Obama administration. Trying to fight a two front war requires you to divert your resources. Political capital that is badly needed to win on health care reform has to be expended on climate change instead. Winning on health care reform is going to require every ounce of resources the Obama administration and the Democratic leadership have.

Winning one battle strengthens you in fightint the next. Cimate change legislation needs to be postponed until health care reform is passed.

But the GOP always has the media on its side -- convincing people that we need to invade unarmed nations, creating false equivalencies to give illogical right wing arguments validity, giving air time to people like Sarah_Palin.
