Sandri says that many Catholics have recently had a loss of faith and turned their backs on God. No, Sandri, what they have lost their faith in and turned their back on is the Catholic Church, not God. It appears the the Church has turned it's back on God's teachings, the law., and the suffering of children. The evidence shows that it has been doing so for many, many years.

I applaud Sandri's statement about women having a larger role in the church. I believe the scandals might have been recognized and dealt with in a much better way if women had had some authority. But, the reason for having no women priests is pretty weak and transparent. To say the reason is because Jesus only chose men as followers in the Bible is pretty disingenuous. There was no way that a woman would be allowed to follow Jesus 2,000 years ago. Especially in that part of the world. Think about it, women still cant drive cars or be out in public without her husband, brother, or father in that part of the world to this day! But, this is a worldwide church in countries where women have been presidents and prime ministers and queens!

Face it. Religions have always been founded by men, for men. They act like this is still 1000 years ago. They want to control women, not be "controlled by them"

Such is the stupidity and self grandiose of religions. It's time to throw them all down the tube. No god will care if humans loose faith in them, for the gods have no faith in the humans.

That's exactly what the church enemy, the acuser of our brothers would say. Or rather would use somebody to say.

Can you name a single human institution of any size or importance that was not "founded by men, for men"?

Not that I credit one iota of this guy's lip service to women, but I'd say that any woman who had anything to do with this chauvinistic, misogynist sick organization needed a reality check. I haven't a shred of respect for either of the last two popes who knowingly fostered rampant pedophilia and perpetuated the secrecy and backwardness of this crumbling institution.

I actually meant my comment to be exceedingly insulting to both the catholic church, its popes and to any woman who would consider participating in this institution. SO, as they say....if the cap fits...

If the next pope is black, is he more likely to rescind and renounce the Doctrine of Discovery? It is hard to imagine a black pope supporting it.
12:33 AM on 03/04/2013
explain please Sister Lauren. I have looked up the Doctrine but do not understand how it even applies anymore or why it should be renounced now when there are no newly discoverable lands to claim for catholic monarchs.

Saying one thing and doing the opposite or not doing anything to change it. If the church needs more women (which they do) then you must actively change that!

This Cardnial is 100% wrong. The Church needs to adhear it's holy Tradition. Let us bring back the holiness and sacredness to Holy Sacrafice of the Mass. By doing this we will see an increase in vocations to the Priesthood and religious life which is very much needed in our Catholic Church today. We don't need an increase in Modernism and liberalism in our Church. We have had it up to our navel with this and it has not worked....in fact it's made it worse. Altar girls, communion in the hand, the new Mass has not worked. Let's face it. We have to return to what made us great and that is to turn back the clock and return to our holy Tradition. There is no other solution.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!! Girls serving Mass!!! Receiving Communion in our hands!! Mass in the native tongue of those who attend!!
Believe what you will, but the changes brought by Vatican II served a great purpose and brought many into the church, not the other way around. The sin of molestation and the cover up of same has sent many of my fellow Catholics out of the Church than what you refer to as "liberalism".
11:02 PM on 03/03/2013
Wrong' many Catholics left the Church after Vatican II ;it's been a disaster.Where are you getting your facts? the Roman Catholic Church has been waterdowned by letting Jews and Protestants even Freemansons at the table Vatican II.They should not have been there.

Peter was married. You should read the Pauline epistles.
10:59 PM on 03/03/2013
No, popes can't marry!!
11:01 PM on 03/03/2013
The cardinal didn't say that Peter had a problem with women or that Jesus was ok with women. Only that according to the earliest sources, the New Testament and the writings of the Church Fathers, Jesus picked men to continue the church. The Catholic Church believes that Jesus did that for a reason and continuing in that tradition is the right thing to do.

Such pomposity to say that because an individual leaves the Catholic church they "turn their back on God." The Vatican needs to change not the people.

No, it's mostly relevant to the 30 and under crowd, where traditional Catholicism is growing rapidly. The young are searching for truth and are finally finding something permanent and true in the Church.

If the Catholic Church was a business (and I'm not so sure it isn't), it would have declared bankruptcy long ago. The Chuch is so far behind the times, this statement - "must open itself up to women in the next pontificate" - should have been made when women were given the right to vote in America nearly 100 years ago.
11:08 PM on 03/03/2013
Yes, but you must admit Sandri and Ravasi are attempting to bring the church into the twenty-first century. Their comments would have been unimaginable eight years ago. Somehow they have found the courage to begin speaking out. I know it seems too little, too late but, as the cliche goes, better late than never. Lets see what happens. It will be interesting.

This election is pivotal and I think the more intelligent members of the Curia realize it.

The RCC is very, very wealthy. There are sites online which give financial insight, though all the real estate and the objets d'art they have amassed over the ages are priceless.

I was raised catholic and left the church when I became an adult because i recognized that this is not a place for women. But I do not know what all the fuss is about, there was a reformation a few hundred years ago where everything wrong with the RCC was addressed and then we had protestant churches (many of them). It is still the same belief just without all the pomp and wealth and ceremonies.
