This is what societies have been reduced to: doing stupid stuff on camera and posting it to YouTube. I can understand having fun and blowing off steam but there's a time and place for all that. We are simply amusing ourselves to death.

Oh Brother! That is too bad, what nasty managers to fire these men for having a little fun.
12:21 PM on 03/04/2013
I'd normally agree, but they are supposed to be working not shooting videos for YouTube. Had they been on their own time then yeah, have all the fun in the world.

How do you know it wasn't on their own time?
Like during their lunch break
(Bear in mind that It's impractical for miners to leave the mine and come back to the surface during their breaks)

Slave labor is not to sing, dance, or even talk to each other. Any form of collaberation is a safety/security hazard. Knock off that silliness, tote that load and lift that bail.

Acting stupid while working underground in an extremely dangerous environment isn't a laughing matter. They deserved what they got.

I can't comment on the corporation's safety issue because I'm not a miner. But given that these men put their lives on the line every minute of every day they're on duty in the middle of the earth, I'm pretty sure they know what's safe. As for the dance, what is the big deal? This is 30 seconds of fun in an otherwise dismal existence in a filthy, smelly hole a few miles deep in the ground. It seems like something they would have done while on break, not spontaneously in the middle of the work shift. Barminco should give them their jobs back and give them raises for having positive outlooks despite a horrible work environment.
12:18 PM on 03/04/2013
It wasn't a big deal. Not til it got posted on Youtube.

I guess that happy dance undermined the soulless, professional persona that large companies try to present towards their investors, or something.

How about a 90 day suspension? They surely made a mistake but it was all in good fun. Unless they have a record of similar stunts, a suspension and a last chance warning should be enough to let them know not to do this again.

It was a group of college kids, not "hundreds of people." If a group of college kids can take down a plane by dancing, then why do we bother scanning people for guns or knives in security? Al-Qaeda can just order 20 plane tickets and call it a day LOL.

So the Gangnam Style dance must be out now and the Harlem Shake dance is in huh. It sure is getting people into a lot of trouble - first the plane story and now this one. It seems to be relatively harmless (and very funny). Why all the fuss? Do employers feel they are losing control? All of the schools are doing it now too including the teachers and principals and posting videos.

I"m with you...it's just something that's around today and gone tomorrow. That is, unless they keep making a big deal about it. It's like people aren't allowed to have even 30 seconds of fun anymore...it's all about work, work, work. It may not be rocket science, but good lord it's also not murder, either.
