Space is the final frontier too bad America has stopped funding exploration the rover is our last mission till the administration prioritizes spending. We keep giving billions to countries that don't even like us we're buying weapons for terror groups in Syria. Supplying jets and tanks to the Muslom Brotherhood while 1000s of jobs in the areo space industry disappear.

Our nation has decided to spend its reources on needless. endless war and worldwide empire rather than a rennaissance that could have changed the course of human history.

Ahhh yess, this is capitalism at its best; after all, there is no huge profit returns on space exploration so why invest in a logical reason of reaching out to discover the universe over selling weapons of mass distruction at the highest rate of profit. Even though that many of our technology systems and devices are in fact developed through space development and innovation; there are investors who are guaranteed a bigger investment through destruction, rather than investment returns on productive technologies, so what is the point?...
02:08 PM on 03/07/2013
The whole nation didn't decide that and doesn't like it.

We usually hunker down when there's an absence of a solar blast. It's called night.

We already have a man-made solar flare, goes by the name of Boehner. Not even sure what color that is to be honest. But it is true that he must be stopped!

If we managed to damage our magnetosphere with pollutants, the GOP deniers would tell us million MPH solar radiation blasts are a good thing, and that "lib scientists" are just trying to "make money". LOL - what a species!

Another classic example of HuffPost's increasingly disingenuous and deliberately misleading form of "journalism"...

Sensationalist teaser headline on the front page to get you to click on the article: "HUGE Solar Blast Races Toward Red Planet" (emphasis added), which is of course accompanied by a super-dramatic (and presumably exaggerated/inaccurate) visual aid.

Once you give them their "click" on the article, you see a headline that is significantly more subdued.

And then you read the article. Here is an actual quote from this article about the "huge" solar storm: "The eruption did not appear severe or extreme, but 'middle of the road, all things considered' said space weather chief Bob Rutledge at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration."

Classic. Have you no shame, HuffPost? I mean really.

This is why I am relying on HP less and less for my news, other than "News of the Weird," which, not surprisingly, they actually show quite a talent for -- a la the National Inquirer, whose journalistic standards they seem to be emulating.

HP (or AP) cropped the photo, why did they do that? This site shows the full version:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2286560/Third-Van-Allen-belt-Earth-Space-probes-shed-new-light-hazardous-space-regions-filled-killer-electrons.html
The Huff version also shows green areas (cooler flares?). Unrealistic, even with enormous filtering. So I think the coloring was enhanced.
Anyway, I learned to read Huffington Post with a lot of polarisation filters in place...

Why is the sun attacking Mars? Are we not obliged to attack the sun in retaliation for this unprovoked attack?

I propose all true American patriots, especially tea baggers and John Birchers, immediately board space ships with all their guns and create a beach head on the surface of the sun. Once they have established a base, the rest of us will follow.

This aggression cannot stand. America must be committed to protecting our Martian brothers!

Onward into the sun!

The blast is much slower than the radio transmission which is the speed of light.
