It is unbelievable that Obama would author this bill and was able to get it through Congress. He doesn't seem like someone that would throw most Americans under the bus, but I guess he has changed.

Congress makes the laws, Congress controls the purse strings, citizen. See the Constitution if you're still unsure as to where the responsibility for this debacle truly lies.

It was passed at Obama's urging. It sure did not originate in Congress.

Pres Obama was the one who bargained to get the sequester into law in 2011. He was the one who wanted it. He was also given discretion as to programs that would be affected but he chose to not be one of the deciders. Oh and now (well, yesterday I think) he says he is ready to govern for a couple years. Classic.

Lets call it what it is "Austerity" so the banks can get theirs first.

How about the US print it's own currency interest free and demand the Federal Reserve prove it had the right to print that money in the first place or the gold (gold plated tungsten bars) to back it up. We paid 150 billion just this year for the interest owned to the private Federal Reserve.

The Federal Reserve will continue to be a cancer to the future of the US and the Constitution and the world.

It is unconscionable that we're punishing our vets in this way. Their college tuition had nothing to do with our economy crashing. Just another way this country turns its back on the brave men and women who serve it...

I'm personally affected and so too are tons of other friends. I've long believed the DoD's budget has needed to be slashed. But I don't know that using young junior enlisted service members' small benefits is the first logical and fair place to go in a deficit reduction effort.

I spy with my little eye billions in needless defense contracts. I spy with my little eye tons of DoD civilians being hired to take the jobs service members were trained to do. I spy with my little eye troops that don't need to be in Europe, Afghanistan, Japan, Australia...

My son and his best friend just took the ASVAB and are scheduled for their physical in a week - they were promised by their recruiter that the military would help them with TA - they scored very high and all programs are available to them for study, depending when they complete their service - and now the incentive is gone - they have repeatedly told me that they lost a bit of appreciation for laying their necks on the line for the country because of Republican congressional obstructionism - and the Red Congress claims they love the military - apparently they love the ultra rich they refuse to tax more.

Really? That's what your son said? Ok, first of all, I'd like to tell you I have been in the Army for 9 years now and earned a degree using the GI Bill. With that said, you should tell your son this is not a Republican problem. It's a R and a D problem. Tell them it started in 2011 when Pres. Obama asked for the sequester to be part of a budget deal. It was his idea. Now, in 2013, the House passed a budget that the Senate didn't like. So, the Senate did nothing. Was the House budget unreasonable? Absolutely. That's the Republicans' fault. Did the Senate respond with a counter offer? Nope. That's the Dems' fault. So if your son and his friend want to blame anyone, blame the government in general.

I completely agree. Once again we have Republicans favoring the rich over average people. It's such a common occurrence that there really is no way to phrase that uniquely. I can't believe the trajectory the Republican Party has chosen... it certainly isn't the Republican Party I grew up with.

As for your son, tell him it's still worth it. There are tons of other training opportunities that often earn college credit, plus many colleges and universities have announced tuition deferrals and some are even waiving fees in wake of recent developments. And a piece of advice I tell all military hopefuls that I hope you pass on to your son: walk in knowing what you want and don't leave until you get it. Don't settle. Tell him if a service counselor offers him a bad deal to threaten to walk down the hall to another service. An enlistment is a long time and it's his life, he should get what he wants. Good luck to him. The military is a wonderful opportunity.

This is just another reason why the brave and honorable men and women of the US Armed Forces hate and despise obama.. If obama thinks they ill help him steal guns from their fellow Americans he is wrong.

Chickenhawks should stop talking for real soldiers. They generally don't know what they are talking about and using soldiers for partisan attacks is disrespectful to those of us who serve.

I've been in 9 years in the Army Infantry. I can tell you that most of the guys I come across don't have a very favorable opinion of the CiC. In all fairness, we don't really like any of the leadership in DC. None of them really care about the military. They all use us as pawns and we are the ones who take the punishment.

I have (and still do!) and I can say with confidence that if an election were held today only among military voters, this President would no longer be in charge.

This is disgraceful, send a man to war with promises and then back out of them.

Thanks Congress, it shows the type of people we have elected.

I applaud those schools who have stepped up to help out.

Just once I wish Congress would cut their own da** pay.!

This is sickening.!

The purse is controlled by the Legislative branch. This is what happens when the Legislative Branch attempts to micro-manage (not about the $$ amount, about the micro-managing). Now they are hearing from their constituents.

Now each member of congress will want to write a law, to change what their constituents do not like: So far they do not like:
- The Defense Impact
- The Yellowstone Park Impact
- The WH Tours Impact
- The NASCAR Airport Impact
- The Meat Plant Inspection Impact
- The WIC Impact
- The Low Income Housing Impact
- The Sandy Hurricane Impact
- The Senate Bldg. Entrance Delay Impact
- The Suspension of the Military's Tuition Assistance Program Impact

So now they want to micro-manage even further by becoming reactionary. Why not stand up and say - I stand behind my vote/decision and there will be some sacrifices’ and some inconveniences. Maybe if they spent more time at their job, they could have written a better law.

Why did they not address this in their town hall meetings last year - Sequester is coming and this is how this district, this state and this nation will be impacted. PEW research and other groups identified projected impact, by state, some time ago. The WH attempted to identify impact by state, which is published on the WH website.

The military did it, why couldn’t the members of Congress?

Gee, now they are actually starting to discuss the budget. They had 16 months to discuss and decide where to make cuts - but they couldn't and in the end let the sequester kick in.
