What a ceremonial job. If you saw Obama's schedule you would wonder when he has the time. He doesn't. The modern president is a face man. Just 50 years ago Kennedy was hosting private swimming pool parties in the afternoon and appearing occasionally in the evenings. Back then presidents had more time to get things done and Kennedy's body of work was behind the scenes was very impressive in just three short years.

Why do we have a Seder meal at our Catholic school? I don't get it. I thought it was a Jewish tradition. Well maybe soon we can have Mass at the Synagogue.
12:59 PM on 03/25/2013
Some Catholics have Seders because it is part of the Old Testament, which Catholics believe in too.

True. The first Seder I ever attended was at a Catholic event tied into Holy Thursday.

I think teaching students who attend Christian schools about Passover is important. First of all, Jesus was Jewish and prior to his crucifixion was in Jerusalem celebrating the Passover with his disciples. In fact, The Last Supper was most likely a Seder meal. Secondly, learning about our Jewish spiritual heritage helps Christians more fully understand the faith. And lastly, one can't know in which one direction is headed unless one understands where one has been.

Our communion is always fashioned after the original Seder

But before Vatican II didn't the Church believe that the Jews and Catholics were totally separate in their beliefs? I mean Jesus was Jewish but the Catholics say He is the Messiah and the Jews believe the opposite. So why now are agreeing to disagree? is it not denying our faiths to do so? Help?

I am all for that! I came here, not to be snarky, but to actually read about the seder. I did listen to his speech to the youth of Israel, and he mentioned the seder he has at the White House.
Yup!

May you richly be blessed!

Can you imagine what would be happening if there were pictures of Obama sitting amongst a bunch of Muslims during a fasting ritual?

It would be Eid-al-fitr to be precise, the end of Ramadan.

Some people needed to have a grandmother like mine who said, "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." I believe Thumper said the same thing.

Ummm, actually....NO. It's not. (as evidenced by the mental patients living in the streets, folks not being healed because they don't the right dollar amount, and killing people and destroying countries based on lies.)

Too bad they are using the Maxwell House Haggadah, which is stultifyingly boring. If you're looking for a better version, check out the Join In, Participate and Sing-Along Hagada from Singlish Publication Society www.singlishps.com -- it is structured so that even those who don't know any Hebrew can participate and sing along to the traditional songs.

so the president shouldn't have a Christmas tree or celebrate Easter????
12:22 PM on 03/25/2013
whoa betsy, pull up on the reigns
Seder is a universal holiday about freedom from bondage
it is the most ecumenical of all our celebrations and can be adapted to any people who have suffered slavery discrimination bondage
like the Palestinians, and the targets of westboro baptist church

before you go galloping off you should do some research on the on the aggressive move by army chaplins, orders from higher up, in the military who try to convert any religion to either evangelical or catholic
this seems far more egregious than a white house seder
and if you don't know who opus dei are, they are the powerful bloc trying to build a theocracy,
let's see, Santorum, Boehner, Scalia, Mitchell, Thomas, and a whole hosts [pun] who are involved in major positions that are pushing Opus Dei

try researching something more important than a white house seder
and may your easter or whatever find you at piece, or peace
