I do not see where this young lady and her mom did anything wrong. Get real!

Pretty much, the people who gave this little girl money feel cheated because her mother happens to have the money to make that dream come true easily. So instead of using her own fortune, she took the money of those less fortunate than herself. It's like if someone asked you to borrow 100 dollars, and then you find out that they've just bought a house, car, brand new clothes, and already donated 100 million to 'charity'.

i disagree. she may have the money but she wants her daughter to learn how to do this on herself with some minor assistance. its not her fault 20,000 came in. remember this is her daughters project. Now if the mother came online for HERSELF then that would be different

Oh boo hoo, grow up poor people. Rich parents are people too!

Perhaps more educated or savvy but especially in the instance of the mother in the above article, attempting to help her daughter in a venture and to teach her sons a lesson, what could be more normal?

As Mr. Wilson stated the goal was a mere small bit of change, only eight-hundred dollars, the 'crowd' proved extremely supportive, more than Mrs Wilson dreamed and bam, over twenty thousand smakolas was raised.

Mrs. Wilson has offered to pay it forward in helping young lady's to develop their own abilities. She is no bad guy here, has the full support of Kickstarter and that seems like a win win for all concerned parties.

Congratulations Susan Wilson, don't be too hard on those boy's, have them dream up a venture and gain satisfaction by achieving similar success......

Give hte kid a cardboard sign "Please Help Send Me to Camp" and find her a good spot on an Interstate off ramp.
Dress her in some old clothes and give her a shabby backpack to carry.
I understand you can make a bunch of $$$$ that way.

The IRS needs to investigate fraud accusations!!
02:16 PM on 03/31/2013
So the kid was fighting with her brothers, the 'mom' decided to ship her away to camp and have everyone else pay for it. Wow. Don't check for your name on 'mother of the year' list.

i think you missed the whole point of this story. the issue is that is CAN afford it. kickstarter is designed for those who can't. if you have millions send your own kids to STEM camp.
02:01 PM on 03/31/2013
Way to raise a greedy entitlement-issued child.
02:00 PM on 03/31/2013
The excess money could very well help pay for other girls that CAN'T afford to go to the camp, to be able to go. Contact some local schools that are age appropriate, ask which girls might be interested in going and hold a raffle! The little girl, nor the mother did anything 'wrong' I don't believe. In the end, it's a possible life lesson to teach how to give to those that can't as well though.
01:57 PM on 03/31/2013
I think she should donate the rest of the money to the camp her daughter is attending. That way maybe some other children whose parents cannot afford to send their daughters there, can apply for a "scholarship" and let them attend as well.

Scams???? One only need to look at the former, illegally installed [sic] leader of the US, gw bush and his crime family and republicans as a whole. They are the ones who control the laws, making what they do legal, in the eyes of the law. Time for a change......and that little girl, G-d bless her, for having the brains and initiative to put together such a challenge. Who ever invested their time and monies with her, should be made part of her plan......because wealth comes in mysterious ways. lol
02:47 PM on 03/31/2013
Oh honestly! If you want to make snide political comments go to a political site. No one reading about a little girl, her mother, and possible fraud wants to read a political rant on either side of the aisle. It's not necessary. Politics has NOTHING to do with this kid. Give it a rest, for crying out loud, Make whatever comment you want about the actual story, but PLEASE leave politics out of it.

Imagine going into a meeting with a potential investor and telling them "I want you to give me money for a for profit project. Once I complete the project and earn profit you will see nothing on your investment." That's basically what kickstarter amounts to, and the entire concept is ripe for scamers.
