when a mouse farts in one of their stores in Montana.

Bentonville Headquarters is a corrupt as that gang on the beltway in DC.

I'm sure that how Sam Walton wanted to spend 157 million dollars like that. If maybe the executives at the new Walmart worried about there employees as much as there worry about bribing officials then working there would be at least 157 millions dollars better. The executives at Walmart also did not pay any federal income tax since poor old Sam died. If Walmart want the protection of the🇺🇸and use or roads and airports and other infustructure in the 🇺🇸then it should pay there taxes. Walmart should pack up its stores and sell to China & India,Russia.

The only Wal-Mart employees who ever would've seen a penny of thet $157 million are there top executives.

Wal does what they want to the didnt follow epa rules for years then when they finally got caught they past all the regulation fines and restriction to the guys building there building the would tell you to start building with out permits or lost any contracts they would not follow storm water requirements back then the fine was about 10 k if they open the store one week early by starting with out permits the made the 10 k in first couple hours so the fine was no problem the would spend 10k in fines to open a store early and if you didnt play by there rules you did get invited back !

They are hoping to have all those benefit-less, low paying, picketing employees have to pay them a settlement, following their suing of those employees.

"This is clearly a bad action, if found guilty, but we believe these issues and penalties will not dramatically impair their balance sheet and its ongoing business model."
Will not impair their balance sheet..... It's always only the bottom line with Walmart.
Money and bribes to speed up getting building permits and gain other favors, of course.
Business as usual. If only they could expend this much effort to reward their employees with better salary and benefits. Such greed.

You can't tell me that Walmart didn't know about the bribery (it's how business is done in those countries) and before it went ahead clearly assessed the impact on their earning and decided that it wouldn't amount to much at all if they were caught. Mea Culpa, mea culpa, we stand to make a whole lot of money.

Saved me a post. China has so much they have a virtual war on it. Mexico, it's a way of life if you want to get anything done. Like the U.S. government does not know this? I bet they had to do bribes to do "fast & furious". Typical though, the SEC never saw anything from 2003-2010 and it took 3 years into a massive recession to say "gee, what happened", maybe Bernie is doing something wrong too?. Hey! just found out what a derivative and CDO's are - that's why were bailing out AIG!!

Got news for you. . .This is how "business" is done EVERYWHERE! Because this is Wal-Mart, however - the most reviled retailer in the world - it's "big news". Let's investigate how other mega -corporations and entities get things done in foreign lands to gain access, and see how corrupt doesn't just apply to Wal-Mart. Gimme a break! Enough money changing hands, will move mountains in this crooked, corrupt world. Stop making like this is an anomaly - it's the norm.

Odd how those so opposed to paying taxes are perfectly willing to pay graft.
03:35 PM on 03/27/2013
Just what does walmart have against it's lower level employees that it refuses to pay a living wage. But has no problem with paying millions in another country just to build more stores. The workers in the stores in Mexcio they'll be glad to get what they'll be paying the low level workers considering they live on next to nothing as it is already there.

And all Wal-Mart will get is a slap on the wrist.

This corporation is an octopus sucking dry everything it gets its tentacles on, laws be damned.

It blows my mind how Anti Wal-Mart people have become after first welcoming this behemoth into their towns and cities, knowing full well what it would do to the retail climate and industry. You shopped there gleefully, and often, you marveled at the 'savings" you packed your SUVs with, and you watched as this Godzilla grew and grew. But now, that you literally have no options - your "Mom and Pop" stores, your smaller friendly marts are all wiped out - you people demonize the creature you nourished .

Actually, I have never stepped foot in a Wal-Mart, gleefully or otherwise. One should take care with making assumptions.
03:29 PM on 03/27/2013
Isn't it strange that incurring these huge costs probably won't affect their earnings, but giving their employees a decent living wage would hurt their bottom line earnings... It's still about greed with Wal~Mart.... Bend, Break the rules whenever they can and pay off when caught... Check the labels when you look at clothing, see if you can find a tag that says made in the USA.. Bet it will be tough to find any USA labels since most of their clothing imports from over seas companies... As do most of their products... They have the money to treat their associates better, but when those workers have no voice... they get the shaft...

Walmart Likely To Incur A Loss From Bribery Probes: SEC Filing .....

Therein lies the problem, large corporations when caught in criminal activites incure loss of profits....when we (private citizens) get caught in criminal activites we incur loss of freedom.

Why shouldn't the managers of these firms face jail time and personal financial loss?

No better reason than they paid a little cold hard cash to lawyers, lobbyists and legislators in exchange for corrupting law making and the justice system and they believe they have a reasonable expectation of being dealt with accordingly i.e. as gods.

the vitriol being spewed by the libbies here against WalMart is scary - y'all have been whipped into a hateful frenzy by your own propaganda

Just a blip on the screen for Walmart. Walmart will continue to offer low prices of low quality items, promoting the idea of "low prices". If the buying public were educated, they would see that buying junk for a low price is very expensive in the long run, but Walmart does not want the ingnorance of their shoppers to change.
